Porous thermoelectric materials offer exciting prospects for improving the thermoelectric performance by significantly reducing the thermal conductivity. Nevertheless, porous structures are affected by issues, including restricted enhancements in performance attributed to decreased electronic conductivity and degraded mechanical strength. This study introduces an innovative strategy for overcoming these challenges using porous Bi0.4Sb1.6Te3 (BST) by combining porous structuring and interface engineering via atomic layer deposition (ALD). Porous BST powder was produced by selectively dissolving

Layered p-block metal chalcogenides are renowned for thermoelectric energy conversion due to their low thermal conductivity caused by bonding asymmetry and anharmonicity. Recently, single crystalline layered SnSe has created sensation in thermoelectrics due to its ultralow thermal conductivity and high thermoelectric figure of merit. Tin diselenide (SnSe2 ), an additional layered compound belonging to the Sn-Se phase diagram, possesses a CdI2 -type structure. However, synthesis of pure-phase bulk SnSe2 by a conventional solid-state route is still remains challenging. A simple solution-based lo

Semiconductor nanowire waveguide cavities hold promise for nanophotonic applications such as lasers, waveguides, switches, and sensors due to the tight optical confinement in these structures. However, to realize their full potential, high quality nanowires, whose emission at low temperatures is dominated by free exciton emission, need to be synthesized. In addition, a proper understanding of their complex optical properties, including light-matter coupling in these subwavelength structures, is required. We have synthesized very high-quality wurztite CdS nanowires capped with a 5 nm SiO(2) con

Spin-forbidden dark excitons are promising for optoelectronic devices due to the significantly extended lifetimes. Although their formation mechanism in monolayer MoS2 has been theoretically revealed, time-reversal symmetry intrinsically protects valley degeneracy, imposing a fundamental limit on the formation efficiency. However, effective strategies to overcome this limitation remain unclear. Here, the photoexcitation and relaxation dynamics in the WSe2 monolayer and WSe2/MoSe2 heterostructure are investigated through nonadiabatic molecular dynamics combined with light-matter interaction and

This study systematically investigates the potential of the two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals heterostructure (vdWH) MoSi2P4/SnS2 for photovoltaic applications. The heterostructure is composed of two monolayers with a lattice mismatch of 6.42%. Among four constructed stacking configurations, the A4 configuration with the lowest binding energy is selected based on binding-energy calculations. This structure exhibits no imaginary phonon frequencies across the entire Brillouin zone, and AIMD simulations confirm its good thermal stability. It also offers synthetic flexibility and tunable properti

Twisted bilayer transition metal dichalcogenides, governed by a single twisted interface, offer a versatile platform for manipulating interlayer coupling and emergent optical behavior. However, despite extensive studies on single twisted interface systems, how multi-interface twisted stacking influences nonlinear optical behavior remains unclear. Here, we address this gap by systematically investigating the nonlinear optical performance of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) grown twisted trilayer MoS2 (TT-MoS2) with multi-interface twisted stacking. We fabricate all nine distinct trilayer MoS2 co

Solid-state molecular qubits with open-shell ground states have great potential for addressability, scalability, and tunability, but understanding the fundamental limits of quantum coherence in these systems is challenging due to the complexity of the qubit environment. To address this, we develop a random Hamiltonian approach where the molecular g-tensor fluctuates due to classical lattice motion obtained from molecular dynamics simulations at constant temperature. Atomistic g-tensor fluctuations are used to construct Redfield quantum master equations that predict the relaxation T1 and dephas

We show how competing bonding strength and lattice anharmonicity govern piezoelectricity and thermal transport in Janus 1T-BrSbX monolayers (X = S, Se, Te). Using density-functional theory and density-functional perturbation theory, combined with machine-learning-accelerated third-order force constants and Boltzmann transport calculations, we map composition property relationships within a single symmetry family. A bonding analysis (COHP) reveals a monotonic reduction in Sb-X covalency from S → Te, which tracks the piezoelectric stress response e 11 and yields in-plane strain coefficients d 11

Stoichiometric materials of Eu(III) offer a promising platform for quantum memories attributable to their unique capability to display a distinctive, nondegenerate 5D0 → 7F0 transition, which enables precise mapping of optical quantum states into their energy-level manifold─a prerequisite for reliable storage and retrieval on demand. However, placing Eu(III) into chiral polar structures, which are necessary for achieving narrow spectral line widths and long optical lifetimes, is a daunting task. Here, we discover Eu2(SeO3)2(SO4)(H2O)2, a rare Eu(III) material that exhibits chiral polar symmetr

Owing to their topologically protected electronic states, layered van der Waals solids in binary and ternary chalcogenide families provide a fertile testbed for exploring unusual electronic and structural states, such as topological insulators and pressure-induced superconducting states. Herein, we report comprehensive high-pressure structural, Raman spectroscopic, and electrical transport investigations of the topological insulator GeBi2Te4 using diamond-anvil-cell techniques. Our experimental results show that pressure-induced superconductivity emerges in the initial trigonal R3̅m phase of G

Integrating functional nanoparticles into thermoelectric matrices is a widely used strategy for performance optimization. However, the thermodynamic instability of such inclusions during high-temperature sintering frequently triggers interfacial reactions that degrade expected functionality. Traditionally, these reactions are regarded as detrimental and are suppressed through complex surface modification processes. This work breaks through this convention by proposing a reaction-assisted nanocompositing strategy, in which the in situ chemical reaction between GdCo2 nanoparticles and p-type BiS

We report a combined experimental and theoretical investigation of the structural, electronic, elastic, and vibrational properties of triclinic Li2W2O7. The crystal structure was confirmed through Rietveld refinement, in good agreement with the reported triclinic model. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations within the DFT-GGA/PBE framework reproduce the experimental lattice parameters with deviations below 5%. Bader charge analysis reveals predominantly ionic Li-O interactions (Li ≈ +0.90e) combined with significant W-O covalency (W ≈ +2.98e), and electronic structure calculations show

Van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures provide a versatile platform for multifunctional photonic and optoelectronic devices, yet their performance is often limited by interfacial inhomogeneities that perturb the local dielectric environment. This is particularly critical in polaritonic heterostructures, where the near-field optical response is extremely sensitive to buried defects. Here, we present a high-resolution microreflectance mapping technique for assessing interfacial quality in vdW heterostructures and enabling the fabrication of twisted polaritonic stacks. By combining hyperspectral im

Hydrogel metamaterials with programmable microarchitectures offer a promising route for converting molecular recognition into mechanical responses. However, efficiently transducing weak biomolecular perturbations into detectable signals without relying on molecular amplification remains a fundamental challenge. Here, we report a metamaterial Buckling-Assisted Surface-acoustic-wave Enabled Sensor (mBASES), which introduces a structure-triggered physical amplification mechanism by integrating bio-crosslinked hydrogel metamaterials with a surface acoustic wave (SAW) device. Temperature-control materials-notably composite phase-change materials (CPCMs)-show great potential for the thermal management of next-generation power electronics. However, the synergistic optimization of multiple performance metrics still relies heavily on Edisonian trial-and-error experimentation. Herein, we present an artificial intelligence framework that incorporates a physics-constrained inverse-design system (PHICS) built upon a directed acyclic graph (DAG) architecture for CPCMs, integrating interface, phase and carrier engineering. The discovery of graphene plasmons (GPs) and hyperbolic phonon polaritons (HPhPs) in two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) materials has enabled extreme light confinement and enhanced light-matter interactions, holding the promise for miniaturized mid-infrared (mid-IR) photonic devices. However, GPs and HPhPs suffer from limited propagation lengths, hindering their impact in various applications. Here, we demonstrate long-range surface polaritons (LRSPs) in 2D vdW materials, featuring much longer propagation lengths and faster group velocities, which may offer complementary opportunities fo

Physical properties of XM (X = Ga, In; M = As, N) were studied under hydrostatic pressure based on DFT simulation. The phonon calculations reveal the dynamical stability of all compounds by demonstrating no imaginary lines. Stiffness constants preserved the Born's constancy and assured the mechanical steady nature. However, the significant variations of elastic parameters under pressure indicate possible phase change for InN at 6 GPa, GaN 6 ± 2 GPa and InAs at 8 GPa, respectively. The analysis of electronic band structures reveal semiconducting attitude of the materials investigated in the ran

Using first principles calculations, we investigated the electronic band structure and optical spectra of Janus MXY (M = Mo, W; X/Y = S, Se, Te) tri-layered van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs). The binding energies, phonon spectra and mechanical properties were calculated and AIMD simulations performed, which confirm the stabilities of these tri-layered vdWHs. The electronic band structures, calculated using the PBE and HSE06 functionals, indicate that MoSSe-WSSe-MoSSe, WSSe-MoSSe-WSSe, MoSeTe-WSeTe-MoSeTe and WSeTe-MoSeTe-WSeTe vdWHs are Γ-K indirect bandgap semiconductors, arising not onl

Despite widespread attention in near-infrared IIb/c (NIR-IIb/c, 1500-2000 nm) fluorescence for deep-tissue bioimaging, the development of NIR-IIb/c emissive materials with high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) remains hindered by the energy gap law (EG law). Herein, we propose a polaron engineering strategy to circumvent the EG law via accelerating the radiative recombination rate by 150-fold through increased charge localization. By incorporating Nd3+ into CdTe quantum dot lattice, we achieved broadband NIR-IIb/c emission peak at 1730 nm, with PLQY of 11.34 ± 0.79% in aqueous solution a
