Most early-onset familial Alzheimer disease is associated with missense mutations in S182, a membrane protein on chromosome 14. We investigated amyloid-beta protein (A beta) precursor (A beta PP) metabolism in skin fibroblasts from S182 (Glu246)-affected individuals and unaffected family members. In the present paper, we have studied the effects of interferon (IFN) -alpha and IFN-beta on the oxidative burst (OB) responses in monocytes and monocyte-derived macrophages from patients with a relatively early phase of HIV infection. Four antiglucocorticoids, RU38486, RU5020, RU25055 and progesterone were found to antagonize the induction of latent Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) information by dexamethasone.
