The effect of plastic intravenous containers and volume-control administration sets on diazepam availability was studied. Solutions of diazepam in dextrose 5% in water and in 0.9% sodium chloride were prepared in plastic burette chambers and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) bags. Diazepam concentration was measured spectrophotometrically for (1) samples taken from the burette chamber and from the end of the administration set, (2) samples prepared in glass beakers and then infused through plastic administration sets with 0.5-micron filters, (3) samples prepared in PVC bags, and (4) sections of the PVC

The aim of plastic surgery in children with down-syndrome is the improvement of speech (by correction of macroglossia) as well as improvement of cosmetic appearance (by correction of saddle nose deformity, epicanthic folds receding chin and deformity of ears). Altering the typical mongoloid physiognomy facilitates the integration of these children into the community.

The pathohistological features of two breasts with implants coated with polyurethane are described.--The first case with an implant of 4 months shows a capsule with cellular collagen tissue and triangular and rectangular polyurethane particles with foreign body reactions. The second case, an autopsy of a female artist, revealed a mammary augmentation in both breasts in situ. In a period of two years 16 patients with induration penis plastica were observed; 11 needed treatment. The therapy was performed according to the degree of severity with vitamin E or local injections of hyaluronidase-dexamethasone. When the conservative therapy failed the foci were removed by operation and the defect was covered by lyophilised dura. The results are rather encouraging. Disturbances of the erection could not be observed. In selected cases of successless conservative therapy the excision with covering of the dura seems to represent an accessible alternative.

The data of 56 patients with plastic induration of the penis treated at the Department of Urology of Semmelweis University Medical School are presented. After a survey of the literature and of the therapeutic possibilities the surgical solution worked out by the authors recommended.
