A Denture Base Resin Developed Using Hyperbranched Polyurethane Acrylate, Tricyclodecane Dimethanol Diacrylate, and Liquid Crystal Display-Based Three-Dimensional Printing.

Poly-(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) is the most widely used denture base material. However, because of PMMA's insufficient mechanical strength, fracture is a frequent problem after long-term denture use for chewing. In this study, hyperbranched polyurethane acrylate (HBPUA) was synthesized using trimethylolpropane, isophorone diisocyanate, and hydroxyethyl acrylate in a molar ratio of 1:3.1:3.2. Gel permeation chromatography revealed that the number- and weight-average weights of the synthesized HBPUA were approximately 1325 and 1797, respectively. For blended resins comprising different HBPUA a

Xanthohumol bulk-modified polyurethane for tracheal repair: A 'killing two birds with one stone' strategy for tailorable mechanics and durable anti-inflammatory efficacy.

Restoring tracheal defects remains a significant challenge in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Current scaffolds fall short of achieving optimal tracheal repair due to unmatched mechanical properties and limited anti-inflammatory properties. In this study, we incorporated the natural plant-derived anti-inflammatory molecule Xanthohumol (XN) into the backbone of a degradable polyurethane (PEUU) to create a porous PEXUU scaffold with tailorable mechanical properties and sustained anti-inflammatory activity. Materials Studio software was initially employed to simulate the feasibility

Electroactive scaffolds of biodegradable polyurethane/polydopamine-functionalized graphene oxide regulating the inflammatory response and revitalizing the axonal growth cone for peripheral nerve regeneration.

Long-gap peripheral nerve injury remains a major challenge in regenerative medicine and results in permanent sensory and motor dysfunction. Nerve guidance scaffolds (NGSs) are known as a promising alternative to autologous nerve grafting. The latter, the current "gold standard" in clinical practice, is frequently constrained by the limited availability of sources and the inevitable damage to the donor area. Given the electrophysiological properties of nerves, electroactive biomaterials are being intensively investigated in nerve tissue engineering. In this study, we engineered a conductive NGS

A case-controlled, retrospective, comparative study on the use of biodegradable synthetic polyurethane foam versus polyvinyl acetate sponge after nasal fracture reduction.

One of the most frequently used packing materials in closed reduction of a nasal bone fracture is the hydroxylated polyvinyl acetate sponge (PVAS; Merocel(®)); however this may cause synechia, epistaxis, and pain. Synthetic polyurethane foam (SPF; Nasopore(®) Forte) has recently been used in septoplasty to prevent synechia or restenosis and haematoma formation. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of PVAS and SPF on postoperative appearance and discomfort following the reduction of nasal bone fractures. We retrospectively reviewed all patient questionnaires and medical historie

Engineering a multilayered micro-vascularized soft tissue graft: Integrating polyurethane composite nanofibres with co-cultures of human adipose-derived endothelial and stem cells.

Soft tissue defects and injuries, such as gingival recession, those requiring dermal tissue filling, and other indications, affect millions worldwide, yet autologous grafting remains the standard of care in most instances, despite donor site morbidity and limited tissue availability. Tissue-engineered alternatives have strong potential to overcome these limitations. We evaluated an 8 mm-diameter, 1 mm-thick layered electrospun composite formed from polar/hydrophobic/ionic polyurethane with methacrylated gelatin (FD-PHI) and polycarbonate urethane (PCNU), seeded with a co-culture of human adipo

Synthetic polyurethane foam for sphenoid packing after endonasal skull base surgery: propensity-matched trends in cerebrospinal fluid leakage and sphenoid mucosal changes.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage and sphenoid sinusitis remain major concerns after endoscopic endonasal approaches (EEAs) for midline skull base tumors. To our knowledge, this study is among the first to directly compare synthetic polyurethane foam (SPF) with balloon catheters (BCs) for sphenoid sinus packing, assessing efficacy and safety, including in high‑flow CSF leaks. METHODS: This retrospective, single-center, observational study included 116 patients who underwent EEAs between April 2016 and March 2025. Since May 2021, SPF has replaced BCs for sphenoid sinus

Enhanced wastewater treatment via a hybrid biofilm carrier: Sulfidized nano zero-valent iron-loaded polyurethane foam for synergistic nutrients and organics removal.

Polyurethane foam (PUF) is widely used as a biofilm carrier in water treatment due to its three-dimensional porous structure and large specific surface area. However, inert nature of PUF limits its active involvement in biological processes. This study developed a novel composite carrier by integrating sulfidized nano zero-valent iron (SnZVI) containing hydrogel into PUF (SnZVI-PUF), aiming to improve its function in nutrients and organic matter removal. The SnZVI-PUF carrier exhibited enhanced phosphorus adsorption capacity (17.10 mg/g), prolonged iron release kinetics and better anti-aging p

Constructing dual-ligand Ce-MOF on graphene oxide modified with polydopamine endowing polyurethane coating with long-term smart anti-corrosion and mechanical robustness.

Traditional mono-functional anti-corrosion coatings are unable to meet the long-term corrosion resistance requirements of metal materials, therefore developing multifunctional anti-corrosion coatings have broad application prospects. In this work, long-lasting anti-corrosion coatings with superhydrophobic and self-healing properties were successfully prepared by in-situ growth of dual-ligand cerium-based metal-organic framework (Ce-MOF) on the surface of graphene oxide (GO), followed by chemical modification with polydopamine (PDA), resulting in 5B level of adhesion and excellent mechanical ro

L-cysteine aided polyaniline capped SrO2 nanoceramics: Assessment of MC3T3-E1-arbitrated osteogenesis and anti-bactericidal efficacy on the polyurethane 2D nanofibrous substrate.

Fabricating bioartificial bone graft ceramics retaining structural, mechanical, and bone induction properties akin to those of native stem-cell niches is a major challenge in the field of bone tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Moreover, the developed materials are susceptible to microbial invasion leading to biomaterial-centered infections which might limit their clinical translation. Here, we successfully developed biomimetic porous scaffolds of polyurethane-reinforcedL-cysteine-anchored polyaniline capped strontium oxide nanoparticles to improve the scaffold's biocompatibility, o

The pyrolysis behaviors of phosphorus-containing organosilicon compound modified ammonium polyphosphate with different phosphorus-containing groups, and their different flame-retardant mechanisms in polyurethane foam.

Two phosphorus-containing organosilicon compounds (PCOCs) with similar structure but different phosphorus-containing groups (phenyl phosphate group, PCOC1; phenylphosphoryl group, PCOC2) were synthesized. They were used to modify ammonium polyphosphate (APP), and the products obtained were coded as MAPP1 and MAPP2. Then MAPP1 and MAPP2 were respectively incorporated into low-density rigid polyurethane foam (LD-RPUF). The pyrolysis behavior of these two kinds of MAPP was investigated. Results showed that PCOC2, with the phenylphosphoryl group, induced the decomposition of APP, leading to early

Racing performance following prosthetic laryngoplasty using a polyurethane prosthesis combined with a laser-assisted ventriculocordectomy for treatment of recurrent laryngeal neuropathy in 78 Thoroughbred racehorses.

REASONS FOR PERFORMING STUDY: Recurrent laryngeal neuropathy (RLN) causes airway obstruction and adversely affects racing performance in Thoroughbred racehorses. Prosthetic laryngoplasty (PL) is the preferred treatment of RLN as it returns variables of airway mechanics to baseline. A number of materials have been evaluated as prostheses; however, the application of Lycra has not been rigorously investigated. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of PL using a Lycra prosthesis, in combination with transendoscopic, laser-assisted ventriculocordectomy, to restore racing performance in Thoroughbred

Amphiphilic Ti3C2/exfoliated bentonite@polyurethane sponge grafting both hydrophobic groups and polar oxygen-containing groups for efficient removal of multi-polar microplastics.

Owing to the intrinsic polarity differences among various microplastics (MPs), conventional adsorbents commonly enable to remove monotypic MPs from wastewater. Waste polyurethane (PU) sponges with abundant sources exhibit a certain potential for adsorbing MPs of varying polarities due to physical interception, but they are constrained by insufficient adsorption sites and inferior cyclic reusability. This study reused waste PU sponge by incorporating polar oxygen-containing functional groups and tailoring hydrophobicity, successfully constructing amphiphilic Ti3C2/exfoliated bentonite@polyureth
