Massed negative practice as a behavioral treatment for Gilles de la Tourette's syndrome.

Gilles de al Tourette's syndrome with its vocal and motor tics has been treated successfully with haloperidol and in some cases with massed negative practice. Two additional cases of successful treatment with massed negative practice are presented, one with additional psychotherapy, one with two-year follow-up. The combined use of haloperidol and massed negative practice may be optimal in some cases.

Data were collected over a one-month period. Data from 386 Vietnamese employees and 355 American respondents indicate positive time-lagged relationships among loving-kindness compassion, proactive coping, relationship-maintenance behaviors, and psychological well-being in both cultural contexts. Self-acceptance, b

Sarcoma survivors' perspectives on their body image and functional quality of life post-resection/limb salvage surgery.

Sarcomas often occur in patients' extremities and treatment typically involves bone resection/limb salvage surgery. Such treatments leave survivors with physical disfigurements, functional disabilities, and/or emotional traumas. Our post-surgery psychological intervention investigated how these experiences impinge on sarcoma survivors' lives. Twenty-three survivors aged 19-60 years (M = 36 years) participated in a tri-disciplinary (rehabilitative exercise, plastic surgery and psychological) intervention. Of these, 17 participated in psychodynamic counselling, 10 completed a mental-health quest

Psycho-oncological interventions and psychotherapy in the oncology setting.

A person who faces the diagnosis of cancer is subjected to changes within his body, but also with regard to his view of himself and his social relationships. Cancer-related psychological distress occurs frequently and has been reported to have different prevalence according to cancer type and stage of disease. Psychological disorders are known to be underdiagnosed and thus undertreated in the oncology setting, since clinicians might miss the symptoms of psychological distress, misinterpret them, or lack the time and resources to respond adequately. The main psychiatric disturbances observed in

RESULTS: A

The Role of EFL Teachers' Praise and Love in Preventing Students' Hopelessness.

The emotional dimension of language teaching and learning has recently gained momentum among researchers after pioneering works in positive psychology. Now, teachers' and students' emotions play an important role in learning process. Despite the growing body of research on many psychological constructs in L2 education, the role of teacher praise and love in precluding students' sense of hopelessness about their future and efforts has been largely ignored. Addressing such problems, the present study aimed to examine the definitions, conceptualizations, influencing factors, causes, and outcomes

Toward a decent learning theory: a structural-psychological framework for understanding students' appraisals of learning.

Research on learning has often focused on ability, motivation, self-regulation, and performance, but these approaches do not fully explain why students within the same educational system may appraise learning in markedly different ways. To address this gap, this article proposes Decent Learning Theory (DLT) to explain adolescents' perceived decent learning from a structural-psychological perspective. DLT draws on educational psychology, developmental psychology, the sociology of education, intersectionality theory, and the Psychology of Working Theory. It proposes that structural educational c

Attitudinal barriers to psychological support-seeking among carers of people with a chronic physical health condition: A qualitative meta-synthesis.

OBJECTIVES: Family/friend carers are the "invisible backbone" of our healthcare systems, providing essential support to people with chronic physical health conditions. Yet many face significant unmet needs, burdens and psychosocial concerns. Psychological interventions can help carers to manage these impacts, however, carers often demonstrate low engagement with psychological support services. This systematic review aimed to provide a meta-synthesis of qualitative studies to determine the attitudinal barriers to seeking formal psychological support services among carers of people with a chroni
