At first the general problems of operations in the x-ray treated tissue are discussed. After that 11 cases of patients, who were x-rayed, were demonstrated. With these patients we carried out a radical operation, because the cancer of cervicis was insufficiently affected by a primary radiological therapy. The bad turn of disease could not be stopped at 6 cases. This work concerns 406 oral carcinomas treated with curietherapy (interstitial applications and surface molds) from January 1959 to December 1970. There were 65 (16.0%) carcinomas of the mucosal surface of checks, 15 of the retromolar areas, alveolus and gingiva, and hard palate (3.7%), 211 of the mobile tongue (51.9%), and 115 of the floor of mouth (28.4%). Information about occurrence of testicular cancer (TC) in relatives of TC patients has been collected using questionnaires from 797 out of 922 consecutive Norwegian and 178 out of 237 Swedish patients with TC seen at the Norwegian Radium Hospital and the University Hospital Lund in Sweden during 1981-91. Female C57BL/6 and BALB/c mice were injected i.p. with 0.06 microCi/kg or 0.5 microCi/kg of the short-lived alpha-emitting radionuclide 224radium at 3-day intervals. Infectious N-ecotropic XC+, and xenotropic C-type retroviruses were activated in several tissues in both strains.
