Sealability of MTA and calcium hydroxidecontaining sealers.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the apical sealability of Fillapex®, endo-CPM-Sealer® and Sealapex®. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Ninety-four freshly extracted single-rooted teeth were selected and decoronated. All teeth were radiographed to confirm the existence of a single and straight root canal, which was prepared using Protaper Universal and 2.5% sodium hypochlorite. The teeth were randomly divided in groups of 10 specimens each according to the sealer, and the canals were filled using the single cone technique and one of the sealers. Four additional teeth were used as control

Sealing properties of mineral trioxide aggregate orthograde apical plugs and root fillings in an in vitro apexification model.

One-visit mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) apexification is gaining in popularity over the use of calcium hydroxide barriers. This study examined the sealing properties of two MTA apexification procedures using an in vitro apexification model. White MTA was introduced into instrumented single-rooted canals with standardized artificially created open apices to form 3- to 5-mm-thick orthograde apical plugs or complete orthograde fillings of the root segments. The remaining canal spaces in the former group were backfilled with thermoplasticized gutta-percha without a sealer. A Flodec fluid filtra

Apical dye penetration with four root canal sealers and gutta-percha using longitudinal sectioning.

The purpose of this study was to compare the level of apical dye penetration when different sealers were used with lateral condensation of gutta-percha. Fifty teeth with single root canals were biomechanically prepared using the step-back technique and irrigation with 15% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid with cetrimide and 1% NaOCl solutions. The teeth were divided into five groups of 10 teeth each. The control group root canals were filled with laterally condensed gutta-percha without sealer and the other four groups were filled with laterally condensed gutta-percha and either Apexit, Sealapex

Setting times for endodontic sealers under clinical usage and in vitro conditions.

The object of this study was to determine the set of sealers under simulated clinical versus bench-top conditions. One hundred twenty extracted teeth were divided into four groups (Roth's, Tubuliseal, Sealapex, AH26). Canal preparation and lateral condensation were performed with the four sealers (30 teeth each). Teeth were placed into 100% humidity at 37 degrees C. The same mix of sealer on a glass slab was stored within the same environment. After 1 to 8 wk the teeth were fractured longitudinally to expose the gutta-percha-sealer interface. Evaluation, both clinical and in vitro, was qualita

Inflammatory cervical root resorption following segmental orthognathic surgery. A case report.

An unusual case of bilateral inflammatory external/internal root resorption developed in the maxillae of a 28 year-old female approximately 4 years following routine segmental orthognathic surgery. The patient experienced dental pain in a tooth adjacent to a segmental osteotomy cut 8 months postsurgery, however, the tooth later became asymptomatic. A definitive diagnosis of inflammatory cervical root resorption was not established until nearly 4 years later on routine dental examination. The external/internal resorptive lesions were located 4 to 6 mm apical to the connective tissue attachment

Applying extrusive orthodontic force without compromising the obturated canal space.

BACKGROUND: Complicated tooth fractures can be the unfortunate result of orofacial trauma and can offer a therapeutic challenge for the dentist. A conservative solution for gaining supragingival sound tooth structure often includes orthodontic forced eruption. Usually, this procedure is carried out by applying extrusive force after placing a provisional acrylic Richmond crown on the tooth. However, this long-lasting dental treatment may jeopardize the coronal seal of the root canal space, leading to microleakage and endodontic failure. CASE DESCRIPTION: Orthodontic forced eruption demands app

Success rate of single- versus two-visit root canal treatment of teeth with apical periodontitis: a randomized controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcome of single- versus 2-visit root canal treatment of teeth with apical periodontitis after a 2-year follow-up period. METHODS: Three hundred maxillary and mandibular nonvital teeth with apical periodontitis were treated in either a single visit or 2 visits. The main inclusion criteria were radiographic evidence of apical periodontitis (minimum size ≥ 2.0 × 2.0 mm) and a diagnosis of pulpal necrosis confirmed by a negative response to hot and cold tests. Radiographically, all teeth showed small and irregular periapical radiolucencies
