Hemoperitoneum as a result of coital injury without associated vaginal injury is an extremely rare entity, and evidence by only five cases that have been reported in the medical literature to date. We report five additional cases encountered in two medical centers. Two of these were ruptured corpus luteum cysts, one was a laceration of the round ligament, another was a laceration of an ovary, and the fifth was rupture of a serous cystadenoma. This diagnosis should be considered in patients with hemoperitoneum after coitus.

A 39-year-old woman with a left-sided inguinal swelling was referred to us with a diagnosis of inguinal hernia. On asking leading questions, the patient gave a typical history of cyclical pain and increased swelling during menstruation. Fine-needle aspiration biopsy revealed endometrial glands. Preoperatively, the extent of the endometriotic lesion was delineated using MRI. The lesion was approached through the patient's caesarean scar for cosmetic reasons and excised in toto. PURPOSE: With a newly described diagnostic pathway, we aim to avoid unnecessary surgical exploration for suspected symptomatic groin hernias in pregnancy.
METHODS: A consecutive series of eighteen pregnant women was referred to our department due to a gradual onset of inguinal swelling and groin ache. In a prospective clinical study, we evaluated these patients clinically and employed grey-scale and colour Doppler sonography (CDS) in all cases--following a newly described pathway. All patients were examined pre- and post-partum by two qualified surgeons. Median follow-up time was 11 months.

A new replica moulding technique for determining cross-sectional area has been developed. The accuracy of this technique has been investigated. The technique and results of both bilateral round ligament, utero-ovarian and uterine artery ligations for excessive hemorrhage in the third stage have been described. The author have performed this procedure, first in 9 monkeys and in 24 women. Unnecessary emergency hysterectomies may be avoided by the use of this method of which the technique is simple, may be rapidly performed and will be more effective than hypogastric or uterine artery ligation. The ovarian and uterine functions were studied and were most often completely restored.

In recent years, uterine suspension has become in infrequent operation on most gynecologic services. While numerous types of suspensions have been described, the round ligament fixation to the rectus sheath described by Gilliam is commonly employed because of its ease, effectiveness, and low complication rate. Laparoscopic visualization of the pelvic organs can allow this type of suspension, requiring only superficial incisions down to the rectus fascia, and thereby markedly reducing the procedure's morbidity and the patient's hospitalization.

A study in 128 women with variable degrees of prolapse of the internal genitalia has identified significant functional abnormalities of both the genital and pelvic organs. Combined biphasic surgical treatment was performed simultaneously or at an interval of 3-6 months. The operation consisted in fixation of the uterus (its stump or the vaginal dome) using an aponeurotic flap and colpoperineolevatoroplasty. Long-term results were evaluated at 0.5 to 7 years. Complete anatomic and functional rehabilitation was achieved in 95.4% and a significant improvement in 3.8% of the patients.

Two hundred and fifty of 323 laparoscopically sterilized patients had hysterosalpingographic (HSG) follow-up. A Foley catheter was used in hysterosalpingography.
