After having applied endoscopic treatment of ectopic pregnancy for one year we herein report on 50 patients who were treated either by laparoscopy (in 20 cases) or laparotomy (in 30 cases). Conservative endoscopic surgery was performed in 12 cases (9 salpingotomy, 2 endoscopic restoration, 1 partial resection of the ovary) while conservative surgical methods by laparotomy were applied in 13 cases (8 milk out, 3 milk out with fimbrioplasty, 1 salpingotomy, 1 partial resection of the ovary). BACKGROUND: Heterotopic pregnancy occurs when two pregnancies occur simultaneously in the uterus and an ectopic location. Treatment includes removal of the ectopic pregnancy with preservation of the intrauterine pregnancy. This was a case of a nulliparous woman with reduced chance of conception following unilateral salpingectomy and years of infertility. She eventually conceived following ovulation induction resulting in twin pregnancy. She had miscarriage that led to loss of one of the twins at 17 weeks of gestational age. The pregnancy was however continued for 116 days following meticulous management with eventual delivery of a live female baby with good outcome.

A case is reported of a 16-year-old adolescent with cryptomenorrhea. The patient had a congenital anomaly of a bicornuate, nonfused, separate rudimentary blind uterine horns with functioning endometria, and complete cervical-vaginal agenesis. Ultrasound, laparoscopy, and minilaparotomy for unilateral salpingectomy failed to accurately identify the exact classification of the anomaly. Magnetic resonance imaging, however, accurately correlated with operative findings of exploratory laparotomy and McIndoe procedure.

We present herein a case of a young woman who experienced lower intestinal hemorrhage caused by ischemic necrosis of the small intestine induced by the compression of a Fallopian tube hematoma in an ectopic pregnancy. All accessible preoperative attempts to clear the site of the bleeding were unsuccessful and an exploratory laparotomy was indicated seventeen days after the development of melena. An ileocecal resection and right salpingectomy finally had to be performed.

A patient, aged 23, first underwent conservative operation for oviductal pregnancy three times (once in the right and twice in the left oviduct), and then cesarean section (a full-term liveborn). Three years following cesarean section, because of tubal pregnancy, salpingectomy of the left tube and the ligation of the right tube stump were performed on the patient's wish for sterilization. A case of superfetation is reported. A 23 year old gravida 3, para 1, aborta 1 had a D & C and partial left salpingectomy for ruptured left tubal pregnancy. The microscopic examination of the curettings and the left fallopian tube revealed two pregnancies. A 39-year-old multiparous woman underwent emergency cesarean section after pathological findings in her cardiotocograph. A biopsy taken from the peritoneal mass confirmed the diagnosis of disseminated peritoneal leiomyomatosis. Postoperatively, the patient developed status epilepticus. Computed tomography image of the brain with angiography revealed a right frontal meningioma. With increasing ascites, excision of the tumor and total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingectomy were performed.

Heterotopic pregnancies are rarely spontaneous. We present the case of a woman who presented with acute abdominal pain. Emergency laparotomy was performed. Intraoperative finding showed right tubal pregnancy and right salpingectomy was performed. Six weeks post-operation, the patient's symptoms and signs of pregnancy persisted and ultrasound showed an intrauterine single viable fetus. The pregnancy was continued to term and a healthy female baby was delivered.

We report a case of tubular bilharziosis discovered on a surgical specimen after salpingectomy. Tubular bilharziosis is not exceptional in endemic zones but is rarely found in Europe. The species most often isolated is Schistosoma haematobium. Contamination occurs via vascular anastomoses between the bladder and the genital organs. Bilharziosis has been shown to be a cause of extra-uterine pregnancy although its effect on fertility is yet to be established.

An infertile woman who conceived after human menopasual gonadotropin-induced ovulation experienced ovarian hyperstimulation and a quintuplet gestation--an ectopic and a quadruplet intrauterine pregnancy. The intrauterine pregnancy was confirmed by B-scan ultrasonography about the time that the tubal pregnancy was ruptured. Salpingectomy did not interfere with the intrauterine pregnancy, but in spite of a cervical cerclage the patient developed premature labor after about 26 weeks of gestation.

Tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA) is a complication of pelvic inflammatory disease that is most commonly seen in sexually active females and seldom in pre-coitarchal adolescents. Initial treatment is generally parenteral antibiotics but often requires more invasive surgical procedures. We present the case of a 12-year-old, non-sexually active adolescent, with bilateral TOA who ultimately underwent a sterilizing bilateral salpingectomy and appendectomy for treatment.

One of the conditions that can develop if not treated appropriately is pyosalpinx. A case of pyosalpinx causing xanthogranulomatous inflammation, a rare type of inflammation, is presented.

A patient, aged 55, three years after having undergone abdominal histerectomy and adnexectomy for a myoma, developed a hard swelling near the surgical cut in the abdominal wall. A similar swelling appeared also in another patient, aged 33, as early as three months following salpingectomy for tubal pregnancy. In both cases these hard tumours radially permeating the facia and muscles were surgically removed and histologically verified as desmoids.
