'How Good to Finally Have Options!' A Qualitative Reflexive Thematic Analysis Exploring Parents' Perceptions of Non-Invasive and Minimally Invasive Caries Management Strategies.

OBJECTIVES: Caries prevalence remains high in Latvia, with limited adoption of minimally invasive dentistry (MID). While provider barriers are known, parental perspectives are underexplored. This study examined Latvian parents' views on MID to identify key barriers and facilitators to its acceptance. METHODS: An inductive qualitative approach was applied to explore parents' perceptions of non-invasive and minimally invasive caries management strategies. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews, conducted with parents (n = 19) whose children had experience of either minimally invas

Position Statement: Guidelines for vitamin K prophylaxis in newborns: A joint statement of the Canadian Paediatric Society and the College of Family Physicians of Canada.

Newborns are at risk for vitamin K deficiency bleeding (VKDB) caused by inadequate prenatal storage and deficiency of vitamin K in breast milk. Systematic review of evidence to date suggests that a single intramuscular (IM) injection of vitamin K at birth effectively prevents VKDB. Current scientific data suggest that single or repeated doses of oral (PO) vitamin K are less effective than IM vitamin K in preventing VKDB. The Canadian Paediatric Society and the College of Family Physicians of Canada recommend routine IM administration of a single dose of vitamin K at 0.5 mg to 1.0 mg to all new

Antibiotic production improvement in the rare actinomycete Planobispora rosea by selection of mutants resistant to the aminoglycosides streptomycin and gentamycin and to rifamycin.

During a strain improvement program, spontaneous mutants with single or combined resistance to streptomycin (Str(r)), gentamycin (Gen(r)) or rifamycin (Rif(r)) were selected from the industrial strain of Planobispora rosea, which is the producer of thiazolylpeptide GE2270. Among the mutants resistant to each single antibiotic, higher producers occurred more frequently (60%) among Gen(r) than in Rif(r) (10%) and Str(r) (24%) populations. Two Gen(r) mutants showed up to 1.5-fold improvement in GE2270 production while single resistant mutants Str(r) and Rif(r) produced slightly more than the pare

The impact of a child with sickle cell disease on family dynamics.

This paper has reviewed research and other papers that have furthered our understanding of the impact of the presence of a child with sickle cell disease on the family. The research suggests that the primary parent in such a family experiences additional emotional strain much like primary parents of children with other chronic illnesses have been found to exhibit. The research also suggests that the ill child's presence influences interpersonal relationships within the family. Specifically, there is some evidence that the relationship between the parents and the relationship between the parent

Development and evaluation of the Parenting to Reduce Child Anxiety and Depression Scale (PaRCADS): assessment of parental concordance with guidelines for the prevention of child anxiety and depression.

BACKGROUND: Involving parents in the prevention of mental health problems in children is prudent given their fundamental role in supporting their child's development. However, few measures encapsulate the range of risk and protective factors for child anxiety and depression that parents can potentially modify. The Parenting to Reduce Child Anxiety and Depression Scale (PaRCADS) was developed as a criterion-referenced measure to assess parenting against a set of evidence-based parenting guidelines for the prevention of child anxiety and depressive disorders. METHODS: In Study 1, 355 parents of

Cytogenetic and molecular analysis of sex-chromosome monosomy.

X chromosome- and Y chromosome-specific DNA probes were used to study different aspects of the genesis of sex-chromosome monosomy. Using X-linked RFLPs, we studied the parental origin of the single X chromosome in 35 spontaneously aborted and five live-born 45,X conceptions. We determined the origin in 35 cases; 28 had a maternal X (Xm) and seven had a paternal X (Xp). There was a correlation between parental origin and parental age, with the Xp category having a significantly reduced mean maternal age by comparison with the Xm group. Studies aimed at detecting mosaicism demonstrated the prese
