Immunogenicity and efficacy of two DNA vaccines encoding antigenic PspA and TerD against Nocardia seriolae in hybrid snakehead.

Fish nocardiosis is a widespread chronic granulomatous disease in aquatic environment, which was particularly caused by Nocardia seriolae. The phage shock protein A (PspA) and tellurium resistance protein D (TerD) were identified to be the immunodominant antigens of the wild-type N. seriolae strain ZJ0503 in our previous study. In an attempt to develop effective DNA vaccines against this pathogen, PspA and TerD were used as candidates to ligate with pcDNA3.1-Flag plasmids, respectively. In addition, the abilities of these two DNA vaccines to elicit various immune responses in hybrid snakehead …

Electrochemical sensor for detecting roxarsone in animal-derived foods using MXene and silver telluride.

Detecting harmful feed additives in animal-derived foods is essential due to potential health and environmental risks. Given its toxicity, Roxarsone, a common organoarsenic compound, requires sensitive detection methods. This study introduces an electrochemical sensor using a glassy carbon electrode modified with 2D MXene (Ti3C2Tₓ) layered with silver telluride (Ag2Te). Characterization through XRD, FT-IR, and XPS confirmed the sensor's composition. Electrochemical assessments using cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry showed notable electron transfer and catalytic efficiency

A handheld fluorescent platform integrated with a Sm(III)-CdTe quantum dot-based ratiometric nanoprobe for point-of-use determination of phosphate.

Phosphate (Pi) is crucial for various physiological processes and aquatic environments, which emphasizes the need for a simple, on-site sensor to promptly detect Pi for human health and environmental conservation. In this study, we propose a dual-emission ratiometric fluorescence sensor for highly sensitive and visual Pi detection. The sensor employs samarium ions (Sm3+) as a core component, with cadmium telluride quantum dots (CdTe QDs) and ofloxacin (OFL) serving as signal carriers. The CdTe-Sm(III)-OFL nanoprobe emits a purple fluorescence resulting from the red fluorescence of CdTe QDs and

Protective effect of nanoemulsions containing CdTe quantum dots with potential application as a diagnostic agent.

A nanoemulsion containing CdTe quantum dots (NE-CdTe-QD) was developed to shield cells from cadmium toxicity and shown to be a promising candidate for brain tumor diagnosis. CdTe-QD was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Raman spectroscopy. CdTe-QD exhibited high luminescence emission at 700 nm, and their stability was maintained when encapsulated in lipidic/polymeric nanoemulsions (198 ± 2.0 nm; PDI = 0.174; - 49.0 mV). The biological effects of free and nanoemulsified CdTe-QD were tested in normal cells (NHF) and glioblastoma cell li

A fluorescence nanoprobe of N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine capped CdTe QDs for sensitive detection of nitrofurazone.

A method was established for detecting the content of nitrofurazone (NFZ) by fluorescence quenching of N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) coated cadmium telluride quantum dots (CdTe QDs). By means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and multispectral methods such as fluorescence and ultraviolet visible spectra (UV-vis), the synthesized CdTe QDs were characterized. The quantum yield (φ) of CdTe QDs was measured as 0.33 by reference method. The CdTe QDs had a better stability, the RSD of fluorescence intensity was 1.51% in three months. NFZ quenching the emission light of CdTe QDs was observed. The

Enhanced antibacterial activity of cadmium telluride nanocrystals in combination with 940-nm laser diode on anaerobic bacteria P. gingivalis: an in vitro study.

Periodontal disease is one of the most common chronic diseases in the oral cavity that causes tooth loss. Root scaling and leveling cannot eliminate all periodontal pathogens, and the use of antibacterial agents or lasers can increase the efficiency of mechanical methods. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the antibacterial activity of cadmium telluride nanocrystals in combination with 940-nm laser diode. Cadmium telluride nanocrystals were prepared by a green route of synthesis in aqueous medium. The results of this study showed that cadmium telluride nanocrystals significantly

Photonic crystal barcodes assembled from dendritic silica nanoparticles for the multiplex immunoassays of ovarian cancer biomarkers.

The combined detection of CA125, CEA and AFP is of great significance in the diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Photonic crystal (PhC) barcodes have apparent advantages in multiplex immunoassays of ovarian cancer markers. In this paper, a novel PhC barcode was assembled from dendritic silica nanoparticles (dSiO2) for multiplex detection of ovarian cancer biomarkers. The interconnected macroporous structure of the dSiO2 PhC beads and the open porous topography of dendritic silica particles could increase the surface area to volume ratio for antibody immobilization. We simultaneously detected multiple

Determination of tuberculosis-related volatile organic biomarker methyl nicotinate in vapor using fluorescent assay based on quantum dots and cobalt-containing porphyrin nanosheets.

Methyl nicotinate (MN) is a representative and typical volatile organic marker of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and the specific detection of MN in human breath facilitates non-invasive, rapid, and accurate epidemic screening of tuberculosis infection. Herein, we constructed a fluorescent assay consisted of CdTe quantum dots (QD) and cobalt-metalized tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin (CoTCPP) nanosheets to determine methyl nicotinate (MN) in vapor samples. Red-emission QD (λex=370 nm, λem=658 nm) acts as signal switches whose fluorescence signals can be effectively quenched by CoTCPP nanosheet

CdTe@CdS quantum dots for labeling and imaging macrophages in liver frozen sections below the freezing point.

CdTe@CdS core-shell quantum dots with different particle sizes are synthesized by an aqueous method, and coating them with a CdS shell layer improves the quantum yield (36% → 59%) and fluorescence stability (37% → 77%) of CdTe@CdS quantum dots. When the KCl concentration (mass fraction) in the system is 15%, the CdTe@CdS quantum dot dispersion system remains in the liquid state at -20 °C, and the low temperature increases the fluorescence intensity. A QD-Ab probe is obtained after CdTe@CdS quantum dots are coupled with IgG; the circular dichroism shows that the IgG protein structure is not des

Construction of ratiometric fluorescence sensor and test strip with smartphone based on molecularly imprinted dual-emission quantum dots for the selective and sensitive detection of domoic acid.

Domoic acid (DA), a highly neurotoxic metabolite produced by phytoplankton, contaminates seafood products and threats humankind. Herein, we have proposed a molecular imprinting fluorescence sensor with internal standard ratiometric mode for sensing of DA in seafood and seawater. In this study, the silicon-coated blue luminous carbon dots (B-CDs@SiO2) and CdTe acted as reference probe (430 nm) and response probe (610 nm), respectively. Subsequently, the two probes were assembled and the molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was introduced as the recognition element to construct the core component

Electron backscattering for signal enhancement in a thin-film CdTe radiation detector.

BACKGROUND: Thin-film cadmium telluride (CdTe) offers high average electron density, direct detection configuration, and excellent radiation hardness, making it an attractive material for radiation detectors. Although a very thin detector provides capabilities to conduct high-resolution measurements in high-energy radiation fields, it is limited by a low signal, often boosted with a front metal converter enhancing X-ray absorption. An extension of this approach can be explored through the investigation of electron backscattering phenomenon, known to be highly dependent on the material atomic n

Rapid and simultaneous detection of heart-type fatty acid binding protein and cardiac troponin using a lateral flow assay based on metal organic framework@CdTe nanoparticles.

Herein, a zirconium metal organic framework (ZrMOF) based lateral flow assay (LFA) is described for the qualitative analysis of early acute myocardial infarction (AMI) biomarkers including heart-type fatty acid binding protein (h-FABP) and cardiac troponin (cTnT). ZrMOF@CdTe nanoparticles (NPs) are synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method. By changing the hydrothermal reaction time, ZrMOF@CdTe NPs with different fluorescent colours can be obtained. They can emit different colours of fluorescence under the excitation of a single wavelength, which makes them suitable for multiplexed lateral f

Silicon photomultiplier-based scintillation detectors for photon-counting CT: A feasibility study.

PURPOSE: The implementation of photon-counting detectors is widely expected to be the next breakthrough in X-ray computed tomography (CT) instrumentation. A small number of prototype scanners equipped with direct-conversion detectors based on room-temperature semiconductors, such as CdTe and CdZnTe (CZT), are currently installed at medical centers. Here, we investigate the feasibility of using silicon photomultiplier (SiPM)-based scintillation detectors in photon-counting computed tomography (PCCT) scanners, as a potential alternative to CdTe and CZT detectors. METHODS: We introduce a model t

Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Dot and CdTe Quantum Dot Dual-Color Multifunctional Fluorescent Sensing Platform: Sensing Behavior and Glucose and pH Detection.

A novel fluorescent probe based on a nitrogen-doped carbon dot (N-CD) and CdTe quantum dot (CdTe QD) platform has been constructed for H2O2/glucose detection and pH sensing. In this work, H2O2-tolerant blue fluorescence N-CDs were added to the H2O2-mediated yellow fluorescence quenching of CdTe QDs to construct a dual-color ratiometric fluorescent H2O2 probe. H2O2-induced passivated group detachment and action on deep nanocrystals promoted CdTe QD fluorescence quenching. Meanwhile, the addition of the blue fluorescent background of N-CDs sharply reflected the color change in CdTe QDs. Under th

Ratiometric Fluorescent Paper-Based Sensor Based on CdTe Quantum Dots and Graphite Carbon Nitride Hybrid for Visual and Rapid Determination of Cu2+ in Drinks.

A simple and effective ratiometric fluorescence sensor of CdTe QDs/GCNNs for on-site and rapid analysis of Cu2+ has been established by mixing physically CdTe QDs and graphite carbon nitride (GCNNs). Two emissions peaks of CdTe QDs at 572 nm and GCNNs at 436 nm are both excitated at 340 nm. Under a UV lamp, fluorescent of traffic yellow CdTe QDs is linearly quenched by Cu2+ (as the detection signal), while blue GCNNs remains unchanged (as the reference), resulting in a distinguishable color change gradually from pink yellow to blue. The limit of detection (LOD) of this new sensor for Cu2+ is a

Novel Method of Clickable Quantum Dot Construction for Bioorthogonal Labeling.

Bioorthogonal chemistry has been considered as a powerful tool for biomolecule labeling due to its site specificity, moderate reaction conditions, high yield, and simple post-treatment. Covalent coupling is commonly used to modify quantum dots (QDs) with bioorthogonal functional group (azide or cycloalkyne), but it has a negative effect in the decrease of QDs' quantum yield and stability and increase of QDs' hydrodynamic diameter. To overcome these disadvantages, we propose a novel method for the preparation of two kinds of clickable QDs by the strong interaction of -SH with metal ions. One sy
