OBJECTIVE: To compare the effect of anesthesia alone with anesthesia and abdominal surgery on plasma thromboxane B(2) concentrations in horses.
STUDY DESIGN: Non-randomized experimental study.
ANIMALS: Six male mixed-bred horses (5-12 years, 350 +/- 18 kg).

Prostaglandin levels in plasma and peritoneal fluid were determined in 10 sterilized women with pelvic pain without pathological findings. Another 15 healthy women were regarded as controls. The 6-keto-PGF1 alpha levels in peritoneal fluid collected from patients with pelvic pain were significantly higher than that from the controls (p less than 0.05). The results indicated that prostaglandins might play an important role in pelvic pain following sterilization.

Although aspirin is an old drug, its optimal dose for the treatment of human atherosclerosis has not been finally proven. Various in-vitro and ex-vivo platelet function tests revealed a dose range from 1 to 3000 mg as being optimal. It was thus the goal to examine its in-vivo efficacy in human suffering from peripheral vascular disease in 7 different doses ranging from 1 mg to 1000 mg a day.
