Reproducibility-repeatability of choroidal thickness calculation using optical coherence tomography.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the repeatability and reproducibility of subfoveal choroidal thickness (CT) calculations performed manually using optical coherence tomography (OCT). METHODS: The CT was imaged in vivo at each of two visits on 11 healthy volunteers (mean age, 35.72 ± 13.19 years) using the spectral domain OCT. CT was manually measured after applying ImageJ processing filters on 15 radial subfoveal scans. Each radial scan was spaced 12° from each other and contained 2500 A-scans. The coefficient of variability, coefficient of repeatability (CoR), coefficient of reproducibility, and intracl

Optical coherence tomography in spontaneous resolution of vitreomacular traction syndrome.

Vitreomacular traction syndrome (VTS) is a vitreoretinal interface abnormality. The disorder is caused by incomplete posterior vitreous detachment with persistent traction on the macula that produces symptoms and decreased vision. Most symptomatic eyes with VTS undergo a further decrease in visual acuity. Spontaneous complete vitreomacular separation occurs infrequently in eyes with VTS. Surgical intervention may be considered if severe metamorphopsia and decreased visual quality occur. Herein, we report 2 typical cases of idiopathic VTS with spontaneous resolution of vitreo-retinal traction d

Using optical coherence tomography to improve diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy.

Flexible bronchoscopy is a common procedure that is used in both diagnostic and therapeutic settings but does not readily permit measurement of central airway dimensions. Anatomic optical coherence tomography (a OCT), a modification of conventional optical coherence tomography (OCT), is a novel light-based imaging tool with the capacity to measure the diameter and lumen area of the central airways accurately during bronchoscopy. This study describes the first clinical use of aOCT imaging in the lower airways in three individuals with common endobronchial pathologies. During bronchoscopy, a spe

High-resolution optical coherence tomography visualization of LASIK flap displacement.

Uneventful myopic laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) was performed in both eyes of a 33-year-old woman. Two weeks after LASIK, examination of the left eye revealed flap striae radiating inferonasally from the superior hinge. The flap was relifted and repositioned to remove the irregular astigmatism and reduce the striae. Before the flap was relifted, Fourier-domain optical coherence tomography (FD-OCT) showed the gap at the temporal flap, which had not been detected by biomicroscopy. After the flap was relifted, FD-OCT documented that the gap was closed. High-resolution FD-OCT was helpful in

Imaging of congenital toxoplasmosis macular scars with optical coherence tomography.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to document the appearance of macular toxoplasmosis scars with the high-resolution cross-sectional retinal imaging technique of optical coherence tomography (OCT) and investigate whether a correlation exists between the morphology of the toxoplasmosis scars, the OCT images, and visual acuity. METHODS: In this retrospective observational case series, fundus photos were taken of the macular lesions that were also documented by OCT. Photos were digitized for the purpose of sizing lesions. All images were classified by the authors. RESULTS: There were 10 con

Quantification of scattering changes using polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography.

We demonstrate that changes in the degree of polarization (DOP) depend on changes in the scattering coefficient, and they can be quantified by using a polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography (PS-OCT) system. We test our hypothesis using liquid and solid phantoms made from Intralipid suspensions and gelatin, respectively. We also quantify the DOP changes with depth caused by changes in the concentration of scatterers in the liquid and solid phantoms. It is clearly shown that the DOP change has a linear relationship with the scattering change. In our previous study, we showed that th

[The role and value of optical coherence tomography in gynecology].

Optical coherence tomography is one of the most important technological progress of the last ten years in the field of medical imaging. It is similar to ultrasound imaging except that it uses properties of light instead of ultrasound. Optical coherence tomography provides images of tissue structure, and at a cellular level, in situ, in real time, with much better spatial resolution than ultrasound and without removal of tissue (optical biopsy). Using optical coherence tomography in combination with catheters or endoscopes may enable the imaging of internal organs as the cervix, the uterine tis

[Imaging of the anterior eye chamber with optical coherence tomography].

BACKGROUND: Optical coherence tomography (OCT) represents a high-resolution diagnostic method which can be used to precisely image the anterior eye segment. Further developments in scanning technology and data evaluation allowed to visualize the entire anterior eye segment in one image, and the purpose of this study was to clinically evaluate this new system. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The studied OCT system was adapted to a slit-lamp and allowed us to image the anterior segment with an axial resolution of 10 microm at a scanning rate of 200 Hz with a depth of 7 mm and a maximal width of 15 mm. In
