[Electrographic reflection of vegetative protective and compensatory reactions in craniocerebral trauma].

The authors substantiate the assumption that the presence of high-amplitude superslow potential fluctuations in registration from the skin surface of the head is determined by destabilization of subcortical intercentral relationships which comprises inhibition of stem and activation of posterohypothalamic structures in craniocerebral trauma. The constant potential reacts only to the sharpest period of a severe craniocerebral trauma and reflects acute inflammatory and vascular phenomena on the cortical level in the first 24 hours; maintenance or appearance of increased positive values of the co

Sensitivity of Saccharomyces cerevisiae vegetative cells and spores to antimicrobial compounds.

The sensitivity of Saccharomyces cerevisiae spores and vegetative cells to various antimicrobial compounds was compared. Sulphur dioxide, benzoic acid, potassium sorbate, salicylic acid, nystatin, actidione and pimaricin were tested. Generally, the Saccharomyces spores were more resistant than the corresponding vegetative cells. It was also observed that this greater resistance shown by the spores varied with the antimicrobial compound used. Only potassium sorbate was not selective and killed both vegetative cells and spores at about the same rate.

[Vegetative dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa. Urogenital manifestations and treatment with hydantoin].

Dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa has a rare recessive polydysplastic vegetant variant, which was described by Nicolas et al. Two siblings are reported. The male was affected by urethral lesions, an exceptional finding in this disease. Many members in family died of renal insufficiency . A variety of therapeutics was indicated along ten years. Only hydantoins caused a marked involution of the lesions. An interesting feature was that high drug levels in the blood produced not only common side effects, such as macrulia , but also exacerbation of the dermatosis and growth of new lesions, which too

Some pharmacological actions of cotton dust and other vegetable dusts.

Aqueous extracts of cotton and other vegetable dusts cause contraction of the isolated ileum and tracheal muscle of the guinea-pig, and of isolated human bronchial muscle. The levels of this contractor activity place the dusts of cotton, flax, and jute in the order of the probable incidence of byssinosis occurring in the mills spinning these fibres. Extracts of cotton dust possess a histamine-liberating activity and contain a permeability-increasing component. These actions are of plant origin and are found in the pericarp and bracts of the cotton boll. Histamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine have a
