Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a fatal disease of the internal organs caused by the eukaryotic parasite Leishmania. Control of VL would best be achieved through vaccination. However, this has proven to be difficult partly because the correlates of protective immunity are not fully understood. Fetus in fetu is a rare congenital anomaly in which a malformed parasitic twin is found within the body of a living child or adult. In this case report, a 1-day-old child presented with a large firm abdominal mass on the left side of the upper abdomen. Imaging studies misdiagnosed the mass as an intraperitoneal benign dermoid cyst displacing the bowel loops and internal viscera. A surgical resection was performed on 21 days of life, and pathology confirmed eight fetuses inside the cyst.

Surgical internal drainage of pancreatic pseudocyst can be done into the stomach, duodenum or jejunum depending on the anatomic relation of pseudocyst with hollow viscera. For cystojejunostomy, a Roux-en-Y loop is preferred over loop cystojejunostomy as former is thought to avoid the reflux of jejunal contents into the cyst cavity. This study presents our experience with laparoscopic loop cystojejunostomy showing loop cystojejunostomy for the pseudocyst of the pancreas can be safely performed laparoscopically with simpler technique with no complications including reflux.

Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a rare histiocytic disorder of childhood mainly affecting skin and rarely deep soft tissues and viscera. We report a 2-month-old infant who presented with respiratory distress secondary to a large pericardial effusion associated with an epicardial mass. Excisional biopsy was performed and the mass was diagnosed as juvenile xanthogranuloma. The child is well without evidence of disease 8 months following the excision. The corresponding literature on juvenile xanthogranuloma with cardiac manifestations is reviewed.

Nanophthalmos is characterized by short axial length, high hypermetropia, thick sclera and a normal-sized crystalline lens. Situs inversus totalis is the mirror image of the normal morphology of the thoracic and abdominal viscera. To the best of our knowledge this is the first report of a nanophthalmic patient with situs inversus totalis. Therefore, we would like to invite the attention of our colleagues to our case and underline the importance of the systemic examination of the nanophthalmic patients to detect systemic malformations and visceral transpositions.

Situs inversus totalis refers to an inverted position of part or all of the viscera, which represents a mirror-image of the normal location, and it is a relatively rare condition that occurs in one in 4,000-8,000 people in Japan. We herein report a patient demonstrating a combination of situs inversus totalis, colon cancer with hepatic metastasis, and cholecystolithiasis, who was treated surgically. We found no expression of UVRAG mRNA in our case, thus suggesting that the UVRAG gene is partly responsible for this condition.
