BACKGROUND/AIMS: Derangement of liver functions in obstructive jaundice has been known to influence surgical outcome. The pattern and time frame of liver function recovery in patients with surgical obstructive jaundice undergoing a bilioenteric anastomosis has not been comprehensively defined in human beings.
METHODOLOGY: Fifty patients of obstructive jaundice who underwent a bilioenteric anastomosis had their liver function evaluated done by biochemistry (pre-operatively and postoperatively on day 1,4,7 and 6 weeks) and radionuclide mebrofenin scan (preoperatively and 6 weeks postoperative).

CONTEXT.—: Histopathologic evaluation of bile duct and ampullary biopsies can be challenging. Biopsies from these sites are often tiny, scant, and/or fragmented. When assessing these biopsies, there is significant overlap between reactive atypia and malignancy, in situ precursor lesions can be misinterpreted as malignancy, and nonprimary tumors can mimic primary disease.

Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is known to be associated with a risk of gastric staple line leak. We report on our experience with endoscopic stenting of the anomalous leaking tract. Three cases of post sleeve gastric leak confirmed by computed tomography scan were treated by endoscopic stenting of their leak with a plastic endoprosthesis under fluoroscopic and endoscopic guidance. Ampullary adenomas can occur sporadically or as part of familial adenomatous polyposis syndrome. Most of them are asymptomatic. Current standard of management is complete surgical or endoscopic resection, depending on depth of invasion and/or biliary tract involvement.
