Resources Required for Cervical Cancer Prevention in Low- and Middle-Income Countries.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in women, with 85% of cases and deaths occurring in developing countries. While organized screening programs have reduced cervical cancer incidence in high-income countries through detection and treatment of precancerous lesions, the implementation of organized screening has not been effective in low-resource settings due to lack of infrastructure and limited budgets. Our objective was to estimate the cost of comprehensive primary and secondary cervical cancer prevention in low- and middle-income countries. METHODS AND FI

Integrating hydrological and economic assessments of soil infiltration enhancement for urban flood resilience.

Urban flooding, exacerbated by climate change and the expansion of impervious surfaces, poses growing risks to sustainable urban development. Enhancing soil infiltration through green infrastructure is a promising nature-based solution, yet its hydrological effectiveness and economic viability under diverse rainfall scenarios remain insufficiently quantified. This study develops an interdisciplinary framework integrating column experiments, physically distributed hydrological modeling, and cost-benefit analysis to assess ceramsite-amended soils for urban flood resilience. In laboratory tests,

Efficacy, Quality of Life, and Cost-Effectiveness of Superselective Adrenal Arterial Embolization in Idiopathic Hyperaldosteronism: A Comparative Study.

Idiopathic hyperaldosteronism (IHA) is the most common subtype of primary aldosteronism, typically managed with mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs). However, long-term MRA therapy is associated with suboptimal cardiovascular outcomes and adverse effects. Superselective adrenal arterial embolization (SAAE) is a novel minimally invasive alternative, but its long-term efficacy, particularly regarding quality of life and cost-effectiveness, remains underexplored. In this study, 62 patients with bilateral IHA were prospectively enrolled and assigned to two groups: SAAE (n = 42) and MRA th

Enhancing Forensic Laboratories Through University Collaboration: Obtaining Conclusive Reports and Reference Materials via NMR.

Forensic laboratories play a pivotal role in identifying and quantifying drugs in police seizures, often using spectroscopic techniques in combination with chromatographic methods that rely on chemical reference substances (CRS). The demand for a wide variety of CRS is critical, not only for common drugs like cocaine but also for the rapidly increasing number of new psychoactive substances (NPS), which emerge weekly. However, acquiring CRS is costly and bureaucratic because of the restricted circulation of these substances. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) offers a viable alternative to identi

Calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate foam demonstrates comparable efficacy to clinical trial data in the real world, improves patient satisfaction and is cost-effective.

Real-world evidence studies are becoming increasingly important in providing insight into clinical effectiveness and safety, economic outcomes, patient-reported outcomes and health-related quality of life of treatments in the clinical setting. These studies also help to complement data reported in clinical studies. Fixed-dose combination calcipotriol 50 µg/g plus betamethasone dipropionate 0.5 mg/g cutaneous foam (Cal/BD foam) is a topical agent used for the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris. In clinical studies, Cal/BD foam has demonstrated a significantly greater efficacy and rapid onset of ac

Factors Associated With Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor Initiation and Adherence Among Medicare Beneficiaries With Chronic Myeloid Leukemia.

Purpose There is substantial concern surrounding affordability of orally administered anticancer therapies, particularly for Medicare beneficiaries. We examined rates of initiation and adherence to tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) among Medicare beneficiaries with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) with and without cost-sharing subsidies. We selected TKIs given their effectiveness and strong indication for use among patients diagnosed with CML. Patients and Methods Using SEER-Medicare data, we identified individuals diagnosed with CML from 2007 to 2011. We used Cox proportional hazards regression

Cost-effectiveness of heptavalent conjugate pneumococcal vaccine (Prevenar) in Germany: considering a high-risk population and herd immunity effects.

In Germany, the seven-valent conjugate vaccine Prevenar is recommended for use in children at high risk of pneumococcal disease. Recent data suggest that giving conjugate vaccine to all children may lead to a decline in pneumococcal disease in unvaccinated adults, a phenomenon known as herd immunity. This analysis evaluated the cost and economic consequences in Germany of vaccinating (1) children at high risk, (2) all children when considering only benefits for vaccinated individuals and (3) all children when also considering herd immunity benefits. Costs in the model included vaccination, man

Effect of infiltrating nasal packing with local anesthetics in postoperative pain and anxiety following sinonasal surgeries: a systemic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Packing of the nasal cavity has traditionally been used for postoperative bleeding control and decreasing synechia formation in patients undergoing nasal surgeries. Although absorbable nasal packing has been gaining popularity in the recent years, nonabsorbable nasal packing is still often used in nasal surgeries in various parts of the world. It is known to be associated with pain and discomfort especially upon and during removal, and previous reviews have only evaluated the effects of local anesthetic infiltration of nasal packing in septal surgeries. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate th

Home Narrowband Ultraviolet B Phototherapy for Photoresponsive Skin Conditions: A Health Technology Assessment.

BACKGROUND: Skin conditions are photoresponsive if they respond to ultraviolet (UV) radiation with partial or complete clearing. Ultraviolet phototherapy is performed by exposing the skin to UV radiation on a regular basis under medical supervision. Three types of UV radiation are used to treat photoresponsive skin conditions: broadband ultraviolet B (BB-UVB), psoralen plus ultraviolet A (PUVA), and narrowband ultraviolet B (NB-UVB). Narrowband UVB phototherapy is generally more effective than BB-UVB and safer than PUVA in the management of several photoresponsive skin conditions. While typica

Integrated Service Delivery Models for Triple Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of Human Immunodeficiency Virus, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B Virus: A Global Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Despite global commitment to the World Health Organization triple elimination initiative, evidence on integrated antenatal service delivery models that simultaneously address human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), syphilis, and hepatitis B virus (HBV) remains fragmented, particularly across diverse health-system contexts. Eliminating vertical transmission of HIV, syphilis, and HBV is a global priority. Pregnant women are disproportionately affected by these infections, and untreated maternal disease leads to significant infant morbidity. Integrating antenatal screening

The CSAW Study (Can Shoulder Arthroscopy Work?) - a placebo-controlled surgical intervention trial assessing the clinical and cost effectiveness of arthroscopic subacromial decompression for shoulder pain: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Arthroscopic subacromial decompression (ASAD) is a commonly performed surgical intervention for shoulder pain. The rationale is that removal of a bony acromial spur relieves symptoms by decompressing rotator cuff tendons passing through the subacromial space. However, the efficacy of this procedure is uncertain. The objective of this trial was to compare the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of ASAD in patients with subacromial pain using appropriate control groups, including placebo intervention. METHODS/DESIGN: The trial is a three-group, parallel design, pragmatic, randomised con

Mobile Messaging Support Versus Usual Care for People With Type 2 Diabetes on Glycemic Control: Protocol for a Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Health outcomes for people treated for type 2 diabetes could be substantially improved in sub-Saharan Africa. Failure to take medicine regularly to treat diabetes has been identified as a major problem. Resources to identify and support patients who are not making the best use of medicine in low- and middle-income settings are scarce. Mobile phones are widely available in these settings, including among people with diabetes; linked technologies, such as short message service (SMS) text messaging, have shown promise in delivering low-cost interventions efficiently. However, evidence
