Two cationic octanuclear metalla-cubes [Ru(8)(η(6)-C(6)H(5)Me)(8)(tpp-H2)(2)(dhbq)(4)](8+) and [Ru(8)(η(6)-p-iPrC(6)H(4)Me)(8)(tpp-H2)(2)(dhbq)(4)](8+) were prepared and evaluated as dual photosensitizers and chemotherapeutics in cancer cells. The electrochemical decomposition of persistent perfluorooctanoate (PFOA) with a Ti/SnO2-Sb-Bi electrode was demonstrated in this study. A general method for the one-pot, three-component Strecker reaction of ketones was developed using Brønsted acids as organocatalysts. A series of alpha-aminonitriles were obtained in good to excellent yields (79-99%). A preliminary extension to a catalytic enantioselective three-component Strecker reaction of ketones (up to 40% ee) is also described.

We investigated a new procedure for gene transfer into the stroma of pig cornea for the delivery of therapeutic factors. A delimited space was created at 110 mum depth with a LDV femtosecond laser in pig corneas, and a HIV1-derived lentiviral vector expressing green fluorescent protein (GFP) (LV-CMV-GFP) was injected into the pocket. Several amino acid derived iminodicarboxylicacid monomethylesters have been converted into a small array of amide derivatives. Sequentially, we were using an Ugi reaction of alpha-amino acids, followed by a mild and efficient amidation. Thus we added to this well-known Ugi scaffold another dimension of diversity, thereby enhancing it is potentially use in the combinatorial and medicinal chemistry of multi component reactions (MCRs) and drug discovery. An easy and convenient microwave-assisted synthesis of a small library of indolic arylpiperazine derivatives is described. Parallel and mixed pool combinatorial methods are reported and compared.
