Pyridoxine is always simultaneously administered orally with isoniazid for tuberculosis patients in the clinic to prevent or treat the nervous system side effects induced by isoniazid. So the aim of this research was to investigate the effects of pyridoxine on the intestinal absorption and pharmacokinetics of isoniazid. The intestinal absorption of isoniazid with or without pyridoxine was investigated by the rat single-pass intestinal perfusion model in situ, and a high-performance liquid chromatographic method was applied to study the pharmacokinetics of isoniazid with or without pyridoxine.

Inverted intraduodenal diverticulum is a rare congenital abnormality usually arising near the ampulla of Vater. We describe a case of an inverted duodenal diverticulum in a patient that presented with an upper recurrent intestinal obstruction that required surgery. Recognition of the entity and its anatomic relationships to the ampulla of Vater is essential to the prevention of iatrogenic complications. The inverted intraduodenal diverticulum must be considered in the management of upper intestinal obstruction of unclear origin.

The authors present the case of a 15-year-old girl with diffuse ganglioneuromatosis, principally involving the caecum. This is a rare condition and usually associated with multiple endocrine neoplasm IIb and neurofibromatosis type I. In our case, the myentric nerve plexus was exclusively involved. The patient presented with episodes of vomiting and weight loss. So far, to our knowledge no other manifestations of the above mentioned genetic conditions have become apparent in this patient.

BACKGROUND: Angiodysplasia of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is recognized as an important cause of lower GI bleeding in elderly. It usually involves the cecum and right colon in adults. Unlike the adult group, there has been little experience with the pediatric population.

Intestinal pseudo-obstruction (IpsO) occurs in a small subgroup of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and has been under-recognized. The etiology and mechanisms are unclear. Small bowel lymphoma is unusual, representing less than 1 percent of all gastrointestinal malignancies. We report a case of intestinal lymphoma presenting with diarrhea and abdominal pain. A jejunocolic fistula was discovered during colonoscopy. UNLABELLED: Chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction syndrome (CIPS) is a severe motility disorder of the gastrointestinal tract that presents with continuous or recurrent symptoms and signs of intestinal obstruction without evidence of a structural lesion occluding the intestinal lumen. Mechanical obstruction might occur in these patients as well but is typically difficult to distinguish from an exacerbation of CIPS. We report two pediatric cases in which mechanical obstruction by volvulus mimicked an exacerbation of CIPS, requiring surgical intervention.

Despite the fact that the non-human primates are our closest relatives and represent a species-rich mammalian group, little is known about their intestinal protistan parasites/commensals. Particularly, the intestinal trichomonads represent a neglected part of the fauna of the primate digestive system.
