AIM: To study the epidemiology of ocular injuries in patients with major trauma in the UK, determining the incidence and causes of ocular injuries, and their association with facial fractures.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis of the Trauma Audit Research Network database from 1989 to 2004, looking at data from 39,073 patients with major trauma.

A 14-year retrospective study was performed on 47 odontomas from the files of the 1st Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Nihon University School of Dentistry. Fifty-seven percent of the patients were male and 42.6% were female. The age distribution was 8 to 48 years with a mean age of 22 +/- 9.0 years. Children who receive radiation for malignant tumors in the orbital area frequently develop widespread craniofacial deformities. These affect the skull, orbit, maxilla, and mandible. We identified 51 patients from pathology and operative records who were treated in the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital with malignant sinonasal tumours between January 1980 and December 1991. A new mutant rat with small eyes (rSey) which was found in the course of breeding Sprague-Dawley rats is described. Genetic analysis demonstrates that rSey is inherited as an autosomal dominant mutation. In 23 domestic cats, 21/2 months of age, the junction between the nasal septum/vomer and the hard palate was extirpated along with the full extent of the mid-palatal suture. Under the cover of undisrupted oral- and nasal mucoperiosteum the resulting osseous defect was then left for healing.
