The COVID-19 pandemic has caused severe worldwide health concerns since its first description as the SARS-COV-2 virus in December 2019. The wide dissemination of this virus, together with the lack of treatment, prompted vaccine development within a short period of time to elicit a protective immunity against COVID-19. Due to their rapid development, potential subsequent side effects of COVID-19 vaccines were overlooked, which might lead to many health concerns. This is especially true for patients at a greater risk of harm from COVID-19, such as pregnant women, children, and patients with pre-

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an antibody-mediated autoimmune disorder characterized by fluctuation of fatigue and weakness of muscle. Due to the heterogeneity of the course of MG, available biomarkers for prognostic prediction are urgently needed. Ceramide (Cer) was reported to participate in immune regulation and many autoimmune diseases, but its effects on MG remain undefined. This study aimed to investigate the ceramides expression levels in MG patients and their potential as novel biomarkers of disease severity. Levels of plasma ceramides were determined by ultra performance liquid chromatogr

OBJECTIVES: Inherited defects of the neuromuscular junction (NMJ) comprise an increasingly diverse range of diseases. Several recently identified genes highlight the overlap between peripheral neuropathies and congenital myasthenic syndromes (CMS). The beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist salbutamol has been shown to provide symptomatic benefit in CMS, while improving structural defects at the NMJ. Based on these findings, we identified cases of motor neuropathy with NMJ dysfunction and assessed the effect of salbutamol on motor function.
METHODS: Cases of motor neuropathy with significant NMJ

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) patients have a more severe COVID-19 course than the general population. Many patients report different persistent symptoms after SARS-CoV-2 infection. The aim of our study is to analyze the prevalence of long COVID-19 symptoms and assess if COVID-19 affects pulmonary hypertension (PH) prognosis. PAH/CTEPH patients who survived COVID-19 for at least 3 months before visiting the PH centers were included in the study. The patients were assessed for symptoms in acute phase of SARS-CoV-2 infection and p

COVID-19 vaccines have proven to be very safe in the clinical trials, however, there is less evidence comparing the safety of these vaccines in real-world settings. Therefore, we aim to investigate the nature and severity of the adverse effects reported and the differences based on the type of vaccine received. A survey was conducted among 1,878 adult (≥18 years) COVID-19 vaccine recipients through online survey platforms and telephonic interviews during March to September 2021. The factors potentially associated with the reported side effects like age, gender, ethnicity, comorbidities, and pr

BACKGROUND: Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease that is associated with the production of autoantibodies. The symptoms of MG are mainly mediated by pathogenic antibodies directed against nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, resulting in a decrease in the number of acetylcholine receptors molecules on the postsynaptic membrane of the neuromuscular junction endplate, leading to clinical symptoms of muscle fatigue and weakness. At present, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment of MG has a better effect by tonifying spleen and replenishing qi. The purpose of this study was to syst…

Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) is a rare condition (1-3 per 100,000) caused by neurovascular compression at the thoracic outlet and presents with arm pain and swelling, arm fatigue, paresthesias, weakness, and discoloration of the hand. TOS can be classified as neurogenic, arterial, or venous based on the compressed structure(s). Patients develop TOS secondary to congenital abnormalities such as cervical ribs or fibrous bands originating from a cervical rib leading to an objectively verifiable form of TOS. However, the diagnosis of TOS is often made in the presence of symptoms with physical ex
