Molecular g-tensors from spin-orbit quasidegenerate N-electron valence perturbation theory: Benchmarks, intruder-state mitigation, and practical guidelines.

Accurate prediction of molecular g-tensors for open-shell systems requires a balanced treatment of multireference electron correlation and relativistic spin-orbit coupling. Here, we develop and benchmark spin-orbit quasidegenerate second-order N-electron valence perturbation theory (SO-QDNEVPT2) for g-tensor calculations, treating dynamical correlation and spin-orbit effects consistently within a multistate effective Hamiltonian (EH) framework. Two g-tensor approaches are implemented: a spin-free EH approach based on second-order response and a Kramers (K) approach that extracts g from spin-mi…

Spin-valley physics in anomalous thermoelectric responses of the spin-orbit coupled α-T3system with broken time-reversal symmetry.

We extract spin-valley physics in the anomalous Hall and Nernst responses of theα-T3system, considering the simultaneous presence of the Kane-Mele type intrinsic spin-orbit interaction (SOI) and a time-reversal symmetry breaking staggered magnetization. Within a full low-energy continuum model, we compute the spin- and valley-resolved anomalous Hall, and anomalous Nernst conductivities. We show that the interplay between the SOI, magnetization, and a model parameterαfor theα-T3lattice enables efficient tuning of spin- and valley-dependent Hall and Nernst signals. The spin-valley physics of the…

Limit-Cycle Proliferation Under Parametric Delayed Feedback in a Conductance-Based Neuron: Bifurcation Landscape, Orbit Catalog, and Capacity Analysis.

We show that a single Hodgkin-Huxley (HH) neuron with Pyragas-type delayed feedback control (DFC) can store multiple symbols as stable periodic orbits, where the specific orbit is selected by tuning the DFC gain K and time delay τ. Sweeping the (K,τ) parameter plane at fixed bias current Ibias = 10.0 μA/cm2 reveals 207 orbit types across 12 topological categories, with inter-spike interval (ISI) means from 5.9 to 56.9 ms. We establish: (i) a write protocol that reliably locks orbits with 13.9 ms median settling time; (ii) a novel Pattern-Oriented Limit-cycle Decoder (POLD) that reads orbits at…

Primary Gingival Squamous Cell Carcinoma With Secondary Extension Into the Maxillary Sinus, Orbit, and Skull Base: A Case Report.

Gingival squamous cell carcinoma (GSCC) is an uncommon oral malignancy that may mimic benign periodontal disease, often leading to delayed diagnosis and advanced stage presentation. We present a 68-year-old man with primary GSCC demonstrating extensive secondary invasion into the maxillary sinus, orbit, and skull base. He presented with progressive weakness, poor oral intake, cachexia, right facial numbness, and visual disturbances. His history was notable for a prolonged absence of medical and dental care due to financial barriers. Imaging revealed a large, destructive mass with orbital apex,…

Large enhancement of effective spin-orbit torque efficiency by optimizing the capping layer thickness in Ta/Pt/Co trilayer.

We report the influence of the capping layer thickness on the effective magnetic damping and the effective spin-orbit torque (SOT) efficiency in Ta/Pt/Co structures via spin-torque ferromagnetic resonance measurements. The SOT efficiency first increases with increasing capping layer thickness (dTa), reaching a large value of 0.199 at dTa= 1.4 nm, then decreases with further increases indTa. This can be attributed to a competition between the additional SOT field generated by the Rashba-Edelstein effect and the reduced net spin current effect. It has been demonstrated that the magnetic damping …

Graphics Processing Unit-Accelerated Density-Fitting Coupled-Cluster and Equation-of-Motion Coupled-Cluster Methods with Spin-Orbit Coupling.

Coupled-cluster (CC) programs incorporating spin-orbit coupling (SOC) within the density-fitting (DF) approximation have been developed in this work. The implementations include DF-SOC-CCSD and DF-SOC-CCSD(T) for ground-state calculations and DF-SOC-EOM-EE-CCSD for excitation energies. The DF approximation reduces memory and disk usage, while a spin-independent formulation simplifies the code and enables efficient graphics processing unit (GPU) acceleration. Spatial symmetry and single/double precision are also supported to enhance computational efficiency. Benchmark calculations on heavy-elem…

Ground-state patterns in a Rydberg-dressed Bose-Einstein condensate with spin-orbit coupling and Lee-Huang-Yang correction.

BACKGROUND: Distal venous arterialization (DVA) is a surgical option for limb salvage in peripheral arterial disease (PAD) without distal runoff. While increasingly applied, the skeletal muscle response after arterial-venous anastomosis remains unclear. This study evaluated skeletal muscle adaptation following DVA, focusing on autophagy regulation. METHODS: This experimental preclinical study evaluated skeletal muscle adaptation following distal venous arterialization (DVA) in a rat hindlimb ischemia model. An experimental microsurgical study was conducted in 30 Wistar rats. Hindlimb ischemia

Anthracene derivatives with strong spin-orbit coupling and efficient high-lying reverse intersystem crossing beyond the El-Sayed rule.

The attention to materials with hot exciton channel and triplet-triplet fusion (TTF) mediated high-lying reverse intersystem crossing (hRISC) has been raised for their ability to convert non-emissive 'dark' triplets into radiative singlet excitons. This spin conversion process results in high exciton utilization efficiency (EUE) that exceeds the theoretical limits. Notably, it is known that such spin conversion processes from the high-lying excited triplet to the singlet state are facilitated by the orthogonal orbital transition effect governed by the El-Sayed's rule. In this study, an anthrac…

Bidirectional-Reinforced Carbon Fiber/Polyether-Ether-Ketone Composite Thin-Walled Pipes via Pultrusion-Winding for On-Orbit Additive Manufacturing.

Benefitting from lightweight, high strength, long life, and green recyclability, continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite (CFTPC) pipes have attracted extensive interest, especially in the on-orbit additive manufacturing of structural components. However, the preparation of CFTPC pipes remains challenging due to the on-orbit limited space and high processing temperature of thermoplastic resin. Here, we report an effective approach for high performance carbon fiber/polyether-ether-ketone (CF/PEEK) thin-walled pipes via bidirectional reinforcement using the pultrusion-winding techniqu…

Influence of the Hall-bar geometry on texture-induced topological spin transport in two-dimensional Rashba spin-orbit ferromagnets.

While the recent prediction and observation of magnetic skyrmions bears inspiring promise for next-generation spintronic devices, how to detect and track their position becomes an important issue. In this work, we investigate the spin transport in a two-dimensional magnetic nanoribbon with the Hall-bar geometry in the presence of Rashba spin-orbit coupling and magnetic skyrmions. We employ the Kwant tight-binding code to compute the Hall conductance and local spin-polarized current density. We consider two versions of the model: One with single skyrmion and one with two separate skyrmions. It …

Diode and Selective Routing Functionalities Controlled by Geometry in Current-Induced Spin-Orbit Torque Driven Magnetic Domain Wall Devices.

Research on current-induced domain wall (DW) motion in heavy metal/ferromagnet structures is crucial for advancing memory, logic, and computing devices. Here, we demonstrate that adjusting the angle between the DW conduit and the current direction provides an additional degree of control over the current-induced DW motion. A DW conduit with a 45° section relative to the current direction enables asymmetrical DW behavior: for one DW polarity, motion proceeds freely, while for the opposite polarity, motion is impeded or even blocked in the 45° zone, depending on the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Mo

Observation of anti-damping spin-orbit torques generated by in-plane and out-of-plane spin polarizations in MnPd3.

Large spin-orbit torques (SOTs) generated by topological materials and heavy metals interfaced with ferromagnets are promising for next-generation magnetic memory and logic devices. SOTs generated from y spin originating from spin Hall and Edelstein effects can realize field-free magnetization switching only when the magnetization and spin are collinear. Here we circumvent the above limitation by utilizing unconventional spins generated in a MnPd3 thin film grown on an oxidized silicon substrate. We observe conventional SOT due to y spin, and out-of-plane and in-plane anti-damping-like torques…

Spin-Orbit and Zeeman Effects on the Electronic Properties of Single Quantum Rings: Applied Magnetic Field and Topological Defects.

Within the framework of effective mass theory, we investigate the effects of spin-orbit interaction (SOI) and Zeeman splitting on the electronic properties of an electron confined in GaAs single quantum rings. Energies and envelope wavefunctions in the system are determined by solving the Schrödinger equation via the finite element method. First, we consider an inversely quadratic model potential to describe electron confining profiles in a single quantum ring. The study also analyzes the influence of applied electric and magnetic fields. Solutions for eigenstates are then used to evaluate the…

[Method for Measuring Noise Power Spectrum Depending on X-ray Tube Angle in Spiral Orbit of Helical CT Scan].

PURPOSE: The noise power spectrum (NPS) in computed tomography (CT) images potentially varies with the X-ray tube angle in a spiral orbit of the helical scan. The purpose of this study was to propose a method for measuring the NPS for each angle of the X-ray tube. METHODS: Images of the water phantom were acquired using a helical scan. As a conventional method, we measured the two-dimensional (2D) NPS from each image and averaged them; the obtained 2D-NPS was referred to as NPSconventional. In the proposed method, we made the X-ray tube angle θ (0°≤θ<360°) to correspond to the image according…

A closer look at how symmetry constraints and the spin-orbit coupling shape the electronic structure of Bi(111).

Fully relativistic density-functional-theory calculations of Bi(111) thin films are analyzed to revisit their two metallic surface-states branches. We first contrast these metallic branches with surface states arising at gaps in the valence band opened by the spin-orbit coupling (SOC). We find that the two metallic branches alongΓM‾do not overlap with the bulk band at the zone boundary,M. We show that the spin texture observed in such states cannot be traced to the lifting of Kramers' degeneracy. Instead, we track them to themj=±1/2-mj=±3/2SOC splitting, the potential anisotropy for in-plane a…
