INTRODUCTION: Hospitalised older patients frequently suffer from inadequate sleep, which can lead to patient distress and delayed recovery from acute illness or surgical procedure. Currently, no evidence-based treatments exist for sleeping problems in hospitalised older patients. Benzodiazepines, such as temazepam, are regularly prescribed by physicians, although they have serious side effects; for older patients in particular. Melatonin is proposed as a safe alternative for sleeping problems in hospitalised older patients, but the efficacy of melatonin is unclear in this population. Therefore

A 1999 examination of approximately 5000 long-term psychiatric patients in Israel identified 725 as Holocaust (Shoah) survivors. Review of these cases has shown that these patients had not been treated as a unique group, and that their trauma-related illnesses had been neglected in their decades long treatment. We discovered that many of these patients had never openly shared their severe persecution history. We postulated that many of them could have avoided lengthy if not life-long psychiatric hospitalization had they been able to openly share that history. Instead, those gruesome and trauma

BACKGROUND: Time toxicity has been used in cancer care to describe the time patients lose to treatment and healthcare-related activities. In nursing work, time-related problems have been described across several areas, including documentation burden, electronic health record use, non-nursing tasks, low-value care, time pressure, missed nursing care and recovery loss. However, these phenomena have not been integrated into a coherent nursing concept.
OBJECTIVE: To clarify the concept of nursing-related time toxicity by identifying its surrogate terms, related concepts, defining attributes, ante

Clozapine is an atypical antipsychotic used for the treatment of resistant schizophrenia, exhibiting significant advantages over other antipsychotic agents. Clozapine efficacy is well established in people diagnosed with schizophrenia via reducing both positive and negative symptoms. Also, is associated with a low risk of extrapyramidal side effects compared to other antipsychotics. Despite the above, clozapine is an unpopular therapeutic option for patients not previously responded to other antipsychotics, because of adverse side effects, such as hyper-salivation and weight gain or critical s

INTRODUCTION: Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is used to manage the symptoms of inflammatory rheumatic and dermatologic disorders. However, HCQ retinopathy is a serious side effect because even after the drug is discontinued, irreversible vision loss may occur and may continue to progress. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the recent recommendation for HCQ dosing is ≤5 mg/kg of real body weight, with baseline ophthalmologic screening during the first year of HCQ treatment and yearly screening after five years of continuous use of HCQ medication, unless the patient is at high r

INTRODUCTION: Methotrexate is a cornerstone disease-modifying antirheumatic drug for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), effectively controlling disease activity and reducing cardiovascular mortality. Despite its efficacy, parenteral methotrexate, which offers higher bioavailability, faster response, and fewer gastrointestinal side effects compared to oral administration, remains underutilized in clinical practice. Understanding the factors influencing its utilization is critical to improving RA management.
AIM: To explore the barriers and enablers towards using parenteral methotrexate in rheumatoid a

This narrative review explores the interconnected relationship between quality of life (QoL) and satisfaction with nursing care (SNC) among cancer patients, recognizing that cancer's burden extends beyond survival and significantly affects physical, psychological, and social well-being. A non-systematic search of PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, and Google Scholar (2000-2025) identified relevant literature using keywords related to oncology nursing, QoL, SNC and patient satisfaction. Inclusion criteria encompassed peer-reviewed studies (quantitative, qualitative, and reviews) involving adult cancer pop

Obstructions in the coronary arteries, arterial vasospasm, and microcirculation dysfunction may cause chronic coronary syndrome (CCS). Angina is a cardinal symptom of CCS and the journey of patients with angina is often filled with challenges and uncertainties. Diagnosis and treatment differences seem to vary between men and women with angina. This article is co-authored by a male and a female patient diagnosed with persistent stable angina and their treating cardiologist at the Heart Institute in São Paulo, Brazil. The patients share their personal experiences of more than 20 years of coping

INTRODUCTION: Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have an elevated risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD). Despite European guidelines recommending routine CVD risk assessment, implementation in clinical practice is challenging. The objectives of this review were to determine if patients attending an Irish tertiary rheumatology centre received CVD risk assessments in line with European guidelines and assess the extent of CVD risk factor screening over five years of routine rheumatology care.
METHODS: A retrospective chart review was conducted for patients newly diagnosed with RA

BACKGROUND: Bleeding is a primary outcome for many transfusion-related trials in acute leukaemia (AL) patients, typically graded using the World Health Organisation (WHO) bleeding scale (clinically significant bleed (CSB) is ≥grade 2). This composite outcome fails to differentiate minor bleeds that may not be significant, poorly represents the total burden of bleeding and lacks input from healthcare providers (HCPs) and patients. As part of a multi-step project to create a better bleeding tool for trials, our objective was to identify HCPs' perspectives on the components of CSB in AL patients.
