The authors present a prospective analysis of Tc-99m MDP and Tc-99m citrate scintigraphy in 29 patients who were clinically suspected of having chronic osteomyelitis. All of the patients showed increased Tc-99m MDP uptake on bone scintigraphy involving the area of concern. However, Tc-99m citrate scintigraphy clearly identified the patients with osteomyelitis (N = 18) confirmed either by biopsy or clinical follow-up. The term masked mastoiditis defines a subclinical infectious inflammatory process of the mucosal lining and bony structures of the mastoid air cells with an intact tympanic membrane. The disease follows an apparently well treated recent acute otitis media. Probably due to an anaerobic colonizing flora, the developing bone infection is of low grade without pus formation. The clinical features of the disease are not overt as those in coalescent mastoiditis. The intact ear drum does not reflect the severity of bone eroding disease which is characterized by non-exudative but proliferative changes.

UNLABELLED: We sought to determine the frequency and significance of axillary lymph node visualization on bone scans performed with diphosphonates.

Infantile renal dysplasias, including multicystic dysplastic kidneys (MCDK), are reported rarely to accumulate radiopharmaceuticals on renal scintigraphy. 99mTc DMSA is a highly sensitive tracer for detecting functioning renal cortical tissue and may be more suited to studying renal dysplasia than 99mTc DTPA. Fifteen patients with the clinical and radiologic features of autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease were investigated with radionuclide hepatobiliary scintigraphy. Partial splenic embolization was performed in a case of Felty's syndrome in 1980. The granulocyte count has since remained normal without serious infections for the 10 years after the procedure. This is the first report of partial splenic embolization in this syndrome.
