Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is a rare and aggressive soft tissue sarcoma known for its propensity for hematogenous dissemination, frequently involving the lungs and pleura. We present a case of metastatic pleuropulmonary LMS managed with a novel combined approach: robotic-assisted cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intrathoracic chemotherapy (HITHOC). A 61-year-old male with high-grade LMS developed progressive pleural and pulmonary metastases following prior systemic chemotherapy and palliative radiotherapy. Diagnostic imaging showed enlarging pleural nodules and diaphragmatic thickening, with P

BACKGROUND: Craniomaxillofacial fibrous dysplasia (FD) causes progressive facial asymmetry and deformity, while conventional contouring surgery remains limited by poor visibility and proximity to critical structures. This study proposes a novel dual-stage robotic-assisted workflow for precise and safe contouring of craniomaxillofacial FD. METHODS: The workflow comprised two stages: (1) robotic localization and depth-controlled drilling using a dentition-supported optical registration system for titanium screw placement, and (2) automated high-speed robotic contouring following the surgical pla

BACKGROUND: Bile leakage from the hepatico-jejunostomy (HJ) is a rare but potentially lethal complication during robotic pancreatoduodenectomy (RPD). The rate of intraoperatively detected bile leakage from the HJ and aberrant biliary anatomy during RPD and its optimal management remains unclear.
METHODS: This retrospective and exploratory cohort study included all adult patients undergoing RPD at a single high-volume center (December 2018-March 2025). Standardized operating reports were reviewed regarding: (a) intraoperative bile leakage observed during the routinely performed 'HJ gauze test,

BACKGROUND: Double blind-ending ureter (DBU) is an extremely rare congenital anomaly involving a duplicated ureter with no connection to the renal pelvis or bladder, making diagnosis difficult.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 10-year-old girl presented with recurrent abdominal pain and ultrasound evidence of left hydroureteronephrosis. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction revealed a 30 cm blind-ending ureter. Robotic-assisted excision (Da Vinci Xi) was performed safely, preserving adjacent structures. Histology confirmed a nonfunctional ureteral remnant.

BACKGROUND: Robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (TKA) requires tracker pin placement, which may result in different incision configurations. Although clinical outcomes across pin placement strategies appear comparable, patient preferences regarding incision design remain unclear.
METHODS: This cross-sectional observational study included 101 patients with knee osteoarthritis who were recruited consecutively at a tertiary university hospital. Three tracker pin-related incision configurations were presented using standardized lower-limb models: (A) all-inside, consisting of the longest sin

PURPOSE: We explore an approach to develop telemedical Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) using User-centered Design (UCD) methods. In contrast with prior work that emphasizes system integration, we center on the GUI as the clinician's primary interface.
METHODS: In a user-centered, two-stage process, we developed a modular and generalized GUI architecture and adapted it to a Robotic Ultrasound System (RUSS) and a robotic Tension Pneumothorax (tPTX) system. The GUIs were iteratively co-designed and evaluated with physicians using mixed methods (System Usability Scale (SUS), end-user-adapted heu

Gastrointestinal emergency surgeries have a high rate of morbidity and mortality due to diagnostic inaccuracies, urgent decision-making, and physiological instability of patients. While robotic surgery and artificial intelligence (AI) have become well-established in elective procedures, their application in emergency gastrointestinal surgery remains an emerging field. This study is presented as a narrative review due to the heterogeneity of available study designs, study populations, the used technologies and reported outcomes. A literature search was performed across relevant databases. Data

BACKGROUND: Robotic surgical platforms have demonstrated functional advantages in complex abdominal surgeries.1-6 However, they are rarely employed in cytoreductive surgery (CRS).7,8 The da Vinci SP platform may overcome the limitations of multi-port approaches with encouraging postoperative outcomes.9-12 We present a case of peritoneal metastases from colon cancer, which was treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy and CRS using the da Vinci SP system.
METHODS: A 61-year-old female patient with colon cancer exhibited ovarian and multiple peritoneal metastases 14 months after undergoing laparosc

Transoral robotic thyroidectomy (TORT) offers a virtually scarless outcome but requires comparative validation studies against open thyroidectomy (OT). Patients who underwent thyroid surgery at our institution between January 2020 and October 2024 were enrolled. Through propensity score matching analysis, a final cohort of 322 adults with pathologically confirmed thyroid carcinoma was identified, comprising 161 patients in each group. We analyzed and compared clinical outcomes between the two surgical cohorts, along with patient-reported outcomes including Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) for pain

Background/Objectives: Prostate cancer is one of the most common non-skin solid malignancies among male solid organ transplant recipients (SOTRs), in whom radical prostatectomy is technically demanding. We report the first use of indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence for simultaneous transplanted-ureter identification and renal graft vascular mapping during robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP), and the first use of the CMR Versius® platform in a SOTR. Methods: Retrospective case series of four consecutive male SOTRs (two renal [RTRs], two hepatic) undergoing RARP. In both RTRs, a dual-ro

BACKGROUND: Surgical management of radiation-induced ureteral strictures may be difficult due to dense peri-ureteral scarring, impaired vascularity, and limited tissue mobility in the irradiated field. We demonstrate outcomes of robotic ureteral reconstruction for management of radiation-induced ureteral strictures.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed our multi-institutional Collaborative of Reconstructive Robotic Ureteral Surgery (CORRUS) database to identify all consecutive patients undergoing robotic ureteral reconstruction for surgical management of radiation-induced ureteral strictures

BACKGROUND: Robotic-assisted aortic valve replacement (RAVR) has emerged as a novel minimally invasive approach to surgically manage aortic valve disease.
CASE SUMMARY: A 74-year-old man presented with several months of worsening dyspnea and chest pain on exertion. Preoperative work-up identified severe aortic stenosis along with coronary artery disease. Despite being at low operative risk, the patient had a small aortic root, coronary disease not amenable to surgical revascularization, and wanted to avoid sternotomy. The decision was made to perform RAVR with percutaneous coronary interventi

BACKGROUND: In minimally invasive surgery for upper gastric and esophagogastric junction cancers, linear staplers are commonly used, and reports of circular‑stapled reconstruction have declined in parallel with the decrease in open surgery. Lower mediastinal reconstruction during robot‑assisted gastrectomy also remains technically challenging. This study describes our surgical technique and preliminary experience with transhiatal lower mediastinal anastomosis using a circular stapler.
METHODS: Twelve patients who underwent robot‑assisted total or proximal gastrectomy with lower mediastinal re

A safe sit-to-stand (STS) transfer is an essential daily movement, but it can be difficult for older adults with reduced strength, balance, or coordination. Cost-effective STS assistance is therefore important for supporting independence. This paper presents a close-range, single RGB-D-camera solution for estimating pelvis motion and controlling a compact STS-assistive rollator. The robot provides two modes: a predefined fifth-order trajectory-following mode and a vision-adaptive mode that modulates the same nominal motion according to real-time pelvis-robot distance. In a feasibility study wi

INTRODUCTION: Diagnostic work-up of peripheral pulmonary lesions (PPLs) remains a challenge in interventional pulmonology. Conventional bronchoscopy and trans-thoracic needle aspiration (TTNA) often entail limitations in accuracy or safety. Robotic-assisted bronchoscopy with shape-sensing technology (ssRAB) combined with artificial intelligence (AI)-aided augmented fluoroscopy (LungVision system) represents an innovative approach to enhance lesion localization and diagnostic yield for small or otherwise hard-to-reach lesions while maintaining the safety profile of the procedure.

Background: Routine chest tube placement remains common in robotic mediastinal surgery despite its association with postoperative pain. We evaluated the safety and feasibility of a protocol-driven no-drain strategy for robotic mediastinal lesion resection. Methods: This prospective study analyzed 39 consecutive procedures performed in 38 patients. A strict intraoperative safety protocol, including a submerged air leak test, was utilized to determine drain omission. Procedures were categorized into no-drain (n = 21) and drain (n = 18) groups based on protocol adherence. Results: The no-drain st

OBJECTIVE: The treatment of vesico-urethral anastomotic stenosis (VUAS) is difficult because of the high risk of urinary incontinence. Cystoscopy-guided robotic Y-V plasty is hypothesized to reduce the incidence of urinary incontinence compared to traditional Y-V plasty. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of cystoscopy-guided robotic Y-V plasty.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: All patients diagnosed with VUAS following radical prostatectomy between January 2019 and December 2024 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients with damaged external urethral sphincter or stenosis involving t
