BACKGROUND: Cutaneous melanoma is a primary tumour that rarely produces intraocular metastases. We report on a 47-year-old woman who was referred to our outpatient department because of anisocoria.
METHODS: A cutaneous melanoma of the upper left arm had been excised 21 months ago with subsequent polychemotherapy for lymph node involvement. Visual acuity and intraocular tension were normal. The left iris showed a brownish, parapupillary, prominent nodule. In both eyes, multiple circumscribed whitish choroidal sub-pigment epithelial tumours were observed.

Cockayne syndrome is one of the families of rare progeroid syndromes. We report on two female siblings suffering from Cockayne syndrome. At birth, they both appeared normal, although both demonstrated a low birth weight and breech presentation. A new form of ocular albinism, autosomal recessively inherited ocular albinism (AROA), was studied in seven females and two males from five unrelated Caucasian kindreds. Waardenburg's syndrome is characterized by deafness and pigment disorders of the eyes, hair and skin. Two types are distinguished; e.g. type I with dystopia canthorum and type II without dystopia canthorum. In Kenya 12 out of 724 pupils of schoools for the deaf were found to suffer from the syndrome.
