PURPOSE: In the preinflammatory phase of S-antigen (S-ag) induced uveitis, an ocular hypotension occurs between day 2 and day 6 after S-ag injection. To better understand this phenomenon, we studied the levels of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and prostaglandin F2-alpha (PGF2-alpha) in the aqueous humor of S-ag injected rats at various time points after induction of disease.
METHODS: Twenty-five female Lewis rats weighting 150 to 175 gm were injected in the hind foot-pad with 50 micrograms of S-antigen. IOP was measured each day at 9 am with a Tono-Pen tonometer. Aqueous humor was collected at days …

DESIGN: Case Report Case description: This report describes the case of a female patient diagnosed with oculo-cerebral toxocariasis manifesting initially in the form of isolated bilateral cystoid macular edema. Diagnosis was made by means of positive anterior chamber and lumbar puncture western blots. The unusual presentation, ancillary findings and treatment are discussed. The control of intraocular inflammation that was only partially responsive to steroids was eventually achieved with pegylated interferon alfa-2a.
CONCLUSION: Isolated macular edema is a rare presentation of ocular toxocari

INTRODUCTION: Panuveitis is a serious inflammatory disease. Setae are fibers produced by many insects and plants. Many case reports have described caterpillar and spider fibers entering the eye. These hairs are covered with tiny barbs that help them enter and migrate into the eye tissue, leading to severe inflammation. Normally, they are buried mainly in the conjunctiva and cornea. However, in the present case, they entered the posterior segment of the eye, which is very rare.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A female patient presented with a complaint of repeated foreign body sensation, redness, pain, and …

BACKGROUND: Syphilis has historically been referred to as "the great imitator", for the extent of disease manifestations secondary to infection. Ocular manifestations include a wide range of intra-ocular inflammation.
METHODS: In this study, we report the case of a 52 years-old male patient with syphilitic hemorrhagic necrotizing retinitis.
RESULTS: The patient presented to the emergency room for rapid and progressive vision loss and ocular redness lasting three weeks and was under immunosuppressive treatment. The diagnosis was syphilitic hemorrhagic necrotizing retinitis mimicking the typic

AIM: We report a case of a young male who developed bilateral panuveitis after extensive tattooing.
DESIGN: Case report.
METHODS: A 22-year-old male with a history of inflamed tattoos presented with pain in both eyes and blurred vision in the left eye. Clinical examination showed ciliary congestion, flare, vitreous cells in both eyes, and posterior synechiae in the left eye. Optic nerve was swollen in both eyes. OCT scans demonstrated subretinal blood, associated with neurosensory macular detachment in the left eye. The skin tattoo biopsy showed a granulomatous inflammation without evidence …

Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous inflammation that affects multiple organ systems. The spectrum of extraocular and ocular involvement is wide and may precede systemic involvement. The diagnosis of ocular sarcoidosis relies on a combination of clinical findings, laboratory investigations, and radiographic findings. These include but are not limited to serum angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), lysozyme, plain-film radiographs of the chest, computed tomography (CT) scans of the chest, pulmonary function testing, bronchoalveolar lavage, and retinal imaging among others. In this review,

PURPOSE: To report a case of an optic disc granuloma secondary to sarcoidosis in the absence of any systemic symptoms nor evident signs of intraocular inflammation at the time of presentation.
METHODS: Retrospective case report.
RESULTS: A 59-year-old Caucasian woman with previously unrevealing systemic work up was referred to the uveitis service for persistent optic disc edema of the right eye for over 1 year. Fundoscopic examination revealed an optic disc granuloma with associated hyper-reflectivity on OCT and high surface reflectivity with medium internal reflectivity on B-scan ultrasound…
