External control arm with real world data to assess the effect of semaglutide on chronic kidney disease risk among patients with type 2 diabetes.

BACKGROUND: Clinical trials have shown semaglutide effective in mitigating risks associated with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease. However, semaglutide's real-world effectiveness and long-term outcomes are not fully established. RESEARCH DESIGN & METHODS: Using 2019-2024 Kythera Labs data, an external control arm was created using criteria identified in the FLOW clinical trial. Primary outcomes were major kidney disease events (kidney failure onset and ≥ 50% reduction in estimated glomerular filtration rate from baseline). Propensity score matching and Cox regression were used to de…

Robotic arm-assisted total knee arthroplasty is associated with improved surgical and postoperative outcomes compared with imageless computer navigation : a large single-centre study.

AIMS: Computer-assisted technology has greater surgical accuracy for total knee arthroplasty (TKA); however, it is unclear if this is associated with better patient outcomes. There is a paucity of data comparing robotic arm-assisted TKA (RA-TKA) and computer-navigated TKA (nav-TKA). The aim of this study was to compare mid-term outcomes of image-based semiactive RA-TKA with imageless nav-TKA in a large patient cohort. METHODS: Patient characteristics, surgical variables, complications, and patient-reported outcomes were recorded for 1,434 primary TKAs (388 RA-TKAs; 1,046 nav-TKAs) performed b…

Safety and Immunogenicity of Monovalent Omicron KP.2-Adapted BNT162b2 COVID-19 Vaccine in Adults: Single-Arm Substudy from a Phase 2/3 Trial.

INTRODUCTION: COVID-19 continues to cause substantial health burden, particularly among vulnerable populations. Vaccines remain a vital tool in preventing severe disease outcomes. As the causative pathogen, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) continues to evolve; therefore, updates may be needed to closely match COVID-19 vaccine composition to predominant circulating lineages to confer optimal protection. METHODS: In this cohort from a substudy of an ongoing phase 2/3 trial, 102 healthy adults (18‒55 and > 55 years of age, n = 51 each) were vaccinated with Omicron KP.

Construct validity and responsiveness of clinical upper limb measures and sensor-based arm use within the first year after stroke: a longitudinal cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Construct validity and responsiveness of upper limb outcome measures are essential to interpret motor recovery poststroke. Evaluating the associations between clinical upper limb measures and sensor-based arm use (AU) fosters a coherent understanding of motor recovery. Defining sensor-based AU metrics for intentional upper limb movements could be crucial in mitigating bias from walking-related activities. Here, we investigate the measurement properties of a comprehensive set of clinical measures and sensor-based AU metrics when gait and non-functional upper limb movements are exclu…

Early outcomes with a flexible ECAP based closed loop using multiplexed spinal cord stimulation waveforms-single-arm study with in-clinic randomized crossover testing.

BACKGROUND: Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) systems that deliver fixed amplitudes expose target tissue to varying electrical fields due to the changing lead-to-cord distance accompanying postural shifts and other body movements. Inconsistent stimulation results in periods of overstimulation or under-stimulation perceived by patients as discomfort or potentially inadequate pain relief. CL-SCS may be applied to provide a comfortable level of perception down to imperceptible stimulation, commonly preferred in higher frequency and multiplexed programming. Here we report outcomes from a study evaluat

Immediate Results Following Novel Single-Point Hand Acupuncture with Movement for Treatment of Musculoskeletal Disorders: A Preliminary Three-Arm, Single-Blinded, Randomized Comparative Trial.

ABSTRACT: Single-point hand acupuncture with movement is a novel technique that can be used to provide immediate pain relief in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. It involves inserting just one needle along the second metacarpal bone, and then having the patient move through motions that were previously painful while retaining the needle. This study is a preliminary three-arm, single-blinded, randomized comparative trial looking at this technique compared with two control techniques. ABSTRACT: Twenty-four patients were recruited in an outpatient musculoskeletal practice with neck, sh…

Lateral overlap technique for the treatment of isolated deep Miller Class II/III gingival recession in mandibular anterior teeth: A single-arm interventional study.

BACKGROUND: Treating deep isolated mandibular recession defects, especially Miller Class III cases, remains a significant challenge due to factors such as shallow vestibules, muscle pull, reduced keratinized tissue width (KTW), and tooth malposition. Although various techniques have been explored, predictable outcomes with complete root coverage (RC) in such cases are rarely documented in the literature. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-two systemically healthy patients (22 males and 12 females) aged 22-36 years, with isolated mandibular recessions measuring 6-11 mm, were treated using the later
