A study was made of brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP) in 66 patients from 56 families with different forms of spinocerebellar degenerations (SCD). 27 patients with olivopontocerebellar degeneration (OPCD), 13 patients suffering from Friedreich's disease (FD), 10 patients with Pierre Marie's familial ataxia (PMFA), 6 patients with late onset cerebellar atrophy (LOCA), and 10 patients with other forms of SCD were examined. A definitive explanation of "crib" or "cot" death remains unknown. An unusual incidental autopsy finding of agenesis of the corpus callosum in a case presenting as "near miss" sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is discussed. Hitherto, only a single case associated with SIDS has been reported in the literature. The condition may be easily missed outside the interest in neuropathology.

CT brain scans of 65 alcohol-dependent inpatients were compared before and after 6 weeks of confirmed abstinence. Roughly 3,000 war veterans with moderate or severe brain injury have suffered from a psychiatric disturbance. Psychotic disorders are found in approximately 750 cases. The material of this preliminary report consists of the first 100 veterans with paranoid disorders. Previous work suggested that brain NGF acts locally on cells adjacent to sites of synthesis, in addition to any putative actions on distant, projecting perikarya. Acute and chronic ear infection can lead to intracranial involvement. We report on a case in which two typical cerebral complications followed a chronic otitis media. It seemed that there was no causal relationship between brain abscess and meningitis. The meningitis itself was complicated by rupture of an infectious intracranial aneurysm with fatal outcome. We have not been able to find a similar case in the literature. Clinical picture and therapeutic management are discussed.
