Neurophobia remains a persistent barrier in neurology education because learners often struggle to connect neuroanatomy, localization, examination findings, and clinical reasoning. At the same time, Generation Z learners now comprise much of undergraduate and graduate medical education and have trained in an environment shaped by ubiquitous mobile technology, short-form media, rapid information retrieval, and heightened attention to feedback, well-being, and belonging. This review synthesizes literature on neurophobia, Gen Z learner preferences, cognitive load, active learning, simulation, mul

Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD), caused by repeated traumatic events of interpersonal origin (such as physical or sexual violence, or war), leads to severe disorders of emotional regulation, self-perception and interpersonal relationships. Without early diagnosis and intervention, children and adolescents with C-PTSD are at risk of developing chronic mental disorders. Rapid therapeutic interventions are thus required in order to avoid the persistence of symptoms and at-risk behaviours altering the development and life trajectory of these young people. The aim of this article is

The ability to identify and resolve conflicts between standard, well-trained behaviors and behaviors required by the current context is an essential feature of cognitive control. To date, no consensus has been reached on the brain mechanisms involved in exerting such control: while some studies identified diverse patterns of activity across different conflicts, other studies reported common resources across conflict tasks or even across simple tasks devoid of the conflict component. The latter reports attributed the entire activity observed in the presence of conflict to longer time spent on t

The goal of this paper is to build an automatic way to interpret conclusions from brain molecular imaging reports performed for investigation of cognitive disturbances (FDG, Amyloid and Tau PET) by comparing several traditional machine learning (ML) techniques-based text classification methods. Two purposes are defined: to identify positive or negative results in all three modalities, and to extract diagnostic impressions for Alzheimer's Disease (AD), Fronto-Temporal Dementia (FTD), Lewy Bodies Dementia (LBD) based on metabolism of perfusion patterns. A dataset was created by manual parallel a

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety condition caused by exposure to severe trauma. It is characterised by nightmares, flashbacks, hyper-vigilance and avoidance behaviour. These all lead to impaired functioning reducing quality of life. PTSD affects 2-5% of the population globally. Most sufferers cannot access effective treatment, leading to impaired psychological functioning reducing quality of life. Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) is a non-invasive brain stimulation treatment that has shown significant clinical effectiveness in PTSD. Another treatment moda

The transition of children and adolescents with epilepsy to the adult healthcare system presents many challenges. The disease is frequently accompanied by cognitive and developmental impairments that make it difficult to achieve self-management of the disease. Seizures are often associated with a loss of consciousness; therefore, conversations regarding medical history often take place only between the physician and the parents. The children and adolescents then usually have a very little knowledge about their disease and do not learn to talk about their seizures and other disease-related prob

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is associated with cognitive impairments and age-dependent memory deficits which have been studied using genetic models of AD. Whether the processes for modulating memory persistence are more vulnerable to the influence of amyloid pathology than the encoding and consolidation of the memory remains unclear. Here, we investigated whether early amyloid pathology would affect peri-learning novelty in promoting memory, through a process called behavioral tagging and capture (BTC). AppNL-G-F/NL-G-F mice and wild-type littermates were trained in an appetitive delayed matching

BP neural network (BPNN), as a multilayer feed-forward network, can realize the deep cognition to target data and high accuracy to output results. However, there were still no related research of k-mer based on BPNN yet. In present study, BPNN was used to train and test binary classification data of each classification mode respectively. All k-mer were divided into two categories according to the X + Y content or completely random mode. Results showed that 1) For classification mode of X + Y content, the accuracy of k-mers classification was 100 percent, no matter k ≤ 6 or k ≥ 7; 2) For comple

OBJECTIVE: Improvement in patients' mentalizing capacities is considered a possible mechanism of change in psychotherapy. This improvement might take place via mentalization-enhancing interventions (MEIs) performed by psychotherapists. The study aimed to explore the use of MEIs in two evidence-based psychotherapeutic treatments for patients with anorexia nervosa (enhanced cognitive-behavior therapy, focal psychodynamic therapy) and their association with the patients' capacity to mentalize in sessions ("in-session reflective functioning" / in-session RF). Additionally, it was explored, if the

The grouping of sensory stimuli into categories is fundamental to cognition. Previous research in the visual and auditory systems supports a two-stage processing hierarchy that underlies perceptual categorization: (a) a "bottom-up" perceptual stage in sensory cortices where neurons show selectivity for stimulus features and (b) a "top-down" second stage in higher level cortical areas that categorizes the stimulus-selective input from the first stage. In order to test the hypothesis that the two-stage model applies to the somatosensory system, 14 human participants were trained to categorize vi

Recent research on music and music-based interventions for people with dementia (PwD) is focused on changes of psychological and cognitive functions. Little is known about the role of biography in the importance of music to PwD. A qualitative study was conducted to identify the phases of their life in which PwD were influenced by music. 20 semi-structured interviews with PwD from nursing homes and PwD cared for at home were conducted. Additionally, their relatives were interviewed separately. The results were analysed relating to four categories divided into past and present with the aim of id

Intermittent hypoxia (IH) often occurs in early infancy in both preterm and term infants and especially at 36-44 weeks postmenstrual age. These episodes of IH could result from sleep-disordered breathing or may be temporally unrelated to apnea or bradycardia events. There are numerous reports indicating adverse effects of IH on development, behavior, academic achievement, and cognition in children with sleep apnea syndrome. It remains uncertain about the exact causative relationship between the neurocognitive and behavioral morbidities and IH and/or its associated sleep fragmentation. On the o

Verbal thoughts (such as negative cognitions) and sensory phenomena (such as visual mental imagery) are usually conceptualised as distinct mental experiences. The present study examined to what extent depressive thoughts are accompanied by sensory experiences and how this is associated with symptom severity, insight of illness and quality of life. A large sample of mildly to moderately depressed patients (N = 356) was recruited from multiple sources and asked about sensory properties of their depressive thoughts in an online study. Diagnostic status and symptom severity were established over a

Research has found that children who have parents with an addiction may be more vulnerable to developing psychopathology compared to children without parental addiction. We compared young adult, recreational gamblers with and without parental addiction on measures of gambling behavior and impulsivity. A total of 286 recreational gamblers (defined as having gambled at least five times in the past 12 months) between the ages of 18 and 29 participated in an initial intake of a longitudinal study assessing susceptibility to pathological gambling. Trained staff members interviewed subjects, and sub

Treatment guidelines recommend evidence-based guided self-help (GSH) as the first stage of treatment for bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. The current randomised control trial evaluated a cognitive behavioural therapy-based GSH pack, 'Working to Overcome Eating Difficulties,' delivered by trained mental health professionals in 6 sessions over 3 months. It was congruent with the transdiagnostic approach and so was intended as suitable for all disordered eating, except severe anorexia nervosa. Eighty one clients were randomly allocated to either a GSH or waiting list condition. Eating d

Over the past 20 years evidence has accumulated that individuals suffering from anxiety tend to interpret ambiguous information as threatening. Considering the causal role of this interpretive bias in anxiety, it was recently established that modifying interpretive biases influences anxiety. This suggests that anxiety can be clinically treated by directly targeting this interpretive bias. The present study was designed to modify a negative interpretive bias in highly anxious individuals, and subsequently assess the hypothesized beneficial effects on clinical measures. High trait-anxious partic

Motor symptoms form the hallmark of Parkinson's disease (PD), although other features such as depression are often present. Currently-used depression rating scales measure affective and somatic symptoms. These somatic symptoms of depression can also be core PD symptoms, suggesting an overlap of symptoms between depression and PD. Using in vivo radiotracer methods, striatal dopaminergic dysfunction is found in both PD and depression. This study investigates to what extent the overlapping symptoms of depression and PD are associated with the striatal dopaminergic dysfunction typical of PD. Sympt

Five patients with the early-onset form of Alzheimer disease (AD) received GM1 ganglioside by continuous injection into the frontal horns of the lateral ventricles for a period of 12 months. The optimal GM1 dose varied between 20 and 30 mg/24 h. The patients were trained twice a week for 4-5 h with an individually designed cognitive programme, which included the use of a word processor. Neurological, neuropsychological, psychiatric and neurochemical examinations were performed a week before surgery and on days 30, 90, 180, 270 and 365 after surgery. In German-speaking regions there are several independent intervention programs, derived from concepts originating in the USA, which are designed to assist children whose parents are separated or divorced. Two of these programs will be presented here. Consistent with the thematic implication that divorce entails trauma and stress, the childrens' need of advice and help is placed at the conceptual center of the intervention. This results in a behavioral-cognitive training program, which should enable children to overcome the stress of their situation. In contrast to these two programs, an unders…

Optimum health management indicates the suspicion of dementia in every elderly person with altered environmental-social interactional skills, multiple physical complaints in the absence of objective disease, or vague and unclear history. A high level of suspicion is justified in light of the high prevalence of the syndrome. Despite the large numbers of mentally and physically impaired elderly people, detailed mental state examinations and assessment of functional capacity are rarely incorporated in health records, which suggests that physicians are probably aware of only the most obvious defic
