This paper describes a noninvasive electromyography (EMG) signal-based computer interface and a performance evaluation method based on Fitts' law. Infectious and inflammatory processes of the intracranial compartment often result in acute clinical presentations. The possible causes are legion. Clues to the diagnosis involve clinical presentation, laboratory analysis, and neuroimaging. This article reviews some of the salient factors in understanding intracranial infection/ inflammation, including pathophysiology and neuroimaging protocols/findings, and provides some examples and a few "pearls and pitfalls."

A 56-year-old man with no significant past medical history presented with exertional shortness of breath. Echocardiogram, cardiac magnetic resonance, and computed tomography showed mitral stenosis and a left atrial thrombus. Left atrial thrombus formation is a well-known complication of severe mitral stenosis that can lead to systemic thromboembolism. The patient underwent mitral valve replacement, left atrial thrombus resection, and left atrial appendage closure that resulted in significant improvement in breathing.

Phaeohyphomycosis belongs to a heterogeneous group of fungal infections, originally described by Ajello et al. as mycoses, whose etiologic agents develop in host tissue as dark-walled, septate mycelial elements. Disseminated infections occur in immunocompromised patients, involving the paranasal sinuses, eyes, central nervous system, lymph nodes, and bone. We present here an interesting image of 18F fluorodeoxyglucose positron-emission tomography/computed tomography showing scapula osteomyelitis caused by phaeohyphomycosis.

PET/computed tomography scans and PET/MR imaging have been applied in imaging tumors of the musculoskeletal system for their ability to provide information about metabolic activity. However, applications of these imaging modalities are now being extended to nononcologic musculoskeletal pathologies, such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoporosis. This article aims to explore the alternative uses of these imaging modalities in oncologic and nononcologic musculoskeletal pathologies. It also discusses the various strengths and some weaknesses that are seen in particular situations.

Relapsing polychondritis (RP) is a rare progressive autoimmune disease. The cardiovascular system is rarely involved. The authors report the case of a young woman with RP aortic arch aneurysm and symptomatic cerebral vessels stenosis. A positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) indicated areas with activity and guided the surgery. Aortic arch with proximal vessels was successfully replaced. The PET-CT may be useful to assess the risks and determine healthy zones for potential anastomotic sites.
