Temporal trend of pediatric fracture epidemiology in Thailand: a nationwide study 2018-2024.

UNLABELLED: Pediatric fracture epidemiology in Asian countries is limited. Using a nationwide claims database (2018-2024), we demonstrated lower fracture incidence in Thai vs. Western children. Incidence was higher in males and adolescents. Incidence fell during COVID-19 then rebounded, resulting in non-significant overall change. Forearm fractures and traffic injuries were prominent. PURPOSE: Data on pediatric fracture epidemiology in Thailand remain limited. We aimed to examine 7-year trends in fracture incidence among Thai children and adolescents. METHODS: Fractures recorded in the Natio

Sarcopenia, an independent predictor for all-cause mortality in rheumatoid arthritis: Insights from the NHANES database.

Sarcopenia, characterized by a decline in muscle mass and function, is increasingly recognized as a significant comorbidity in chronic diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, its relevance to all-cause mortality in RA patients remains to be explored. Here, we examine the correlation between sarcopenia and all-cause mortality in RA patients using the NHANES database. Data were obtained from 910 RA patients identified through self-reported data in the nationwide NHANES (1999-2018). Sarcopenia was defined by an appendicular skeletal muscle mass index adjusted for body mass index (

Timing of adjuvant radiotherapy impacts overall survival for atypical intracranial meningiomas: a National Cancer Database (NCDB) analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Atypical intracranial meningiomas are characterized by brain invasion and faster growth than lower grade counterparts. Adjuvant radiotherapy (aRT) improves survival for patients with atypical meningiomas (AMs). This study assesses the association between timing of initiating radiotherapy following surgery upon survival. METHODS: Patients > 18 years old with intracranial AMs surgically resected (2004-2019) within the National Cancer Database were included. Kaplan-Meier survival curves for each variable were generated. Cox proportional hazards models were developed to assess the a

A population-based study of obstructive sleep apnea: using probabilistic case ascertainment through health administrative databases.

BACKGROUND: Although polysomnography (PSG) is the diagnostic gold standard, PSG data on obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) presence and severity are rarely available at the population level. Health administrative databases offer broad coverage for OSA case ascertainment but require methods that address inherent misclassification. We utilized a previously validated probabilistic case ascertainment model of OSA to estimate population-level prevalence and correlates of OSA. METHODS: We conducted a population-based retrospective cohort study in Ontario, Canada. First, using a clinical cohort with PSG-

The prognostic value of the early neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio for 28-day mortality in sepsis patients: A machine learning-based investigation of the MIMIC database.

BACKGROUND: The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has shown inconsistent prognostic value in individuals with sepsis. This study aimed to clarify its ability to predict 28-day mortality via a machine learning-based analysis of a large ICU database. METHODS: This retrospective analysis employed data from the MIMIC-IV database (v3.1). The Boruta algorithm combined with XGBoost was used for two-stage feature selection. Patients were stratified by NLR quartiles into three groups (low: <4.34, intermediate: 4.34-14.70, and high: >14.70). This study defined 28-day mortality as the primary outcome

The prognostic significance of stress hyperglycemic ratio in critically Ill patients with hypertension: A study using the MIMIC-IV database.

BACKGROUND: Traditional ABG is susceptible to interference from acute stress and daily fluctuations, making it difficult to accurately assess true acute blood glucose surges. To bridge this gap, we adopted the Stress Hyperglycemia Ratio (SHR), which reflects true acute hyperglycemia by controlling for baseline glucose status. SHR is associated with critical illness and has been shown to associated with in-hospital mortality. However, there is a lack of studies investigating SHR and its prognostic significance in patients with hypertension. METHODS: This study utilized the Medical Information
