Financial Barriers, Mental Health, and Medication Nonadherence Among Individuals With Chronic Pain.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic pain has been associated with comorbid psychological symptoms and prescription medication nonadherence, including nonadherence due to financial limitations. Despite noted independent associations with chronic pain, the association of medication nonadherence and psychological symptoms in the context of chronic pain is unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the associations between depression and anxiety medication nonadherence due to cost among adults living with chronic pain. METHOD: Data from the 2023 National Health Interview Survey were utilized in these anal

Correlation between plantar pressure and foot morphology in 65 + year-old individuals.

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between plantar pressure (PP) and clinically easy-to-measure foot morphology parameters in 65 + year-old individuals. METHODS: Sixty-two 65 + year-old individuals (28 males and 34 females) participated in the experiment. Three foot morphology parameters were measured: hallux valgus angle, navicular height (normalized by foot length), and calcaneal angle. Participants walked at a self-selected comfortable speed along a 6-meter walkway. PP was measured as they passed over a 2-meter platform located at the walkway midpoint.

Evidence-based dental management strategies for individuals with congenital hemophilia: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: People with hemophilia commonly present with a range of bleeding symptoms, from minor oral cavity bleeds to life-threatening events such as intracranial hemorrhage. People with hemophilia often exhibit poor oral health, attributed to disease-specific barriers and a fear of dental procedures, which may exacerbate their oral disease burden. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the various dental procedures performed in patients with hemophilia and the corresponding clotting factor concentrate replacement regimens used for individuals with mild, moderate, and severe forms of the d

Multicancer Detection Tests for Population-Wide Screening of Asymptomatic Individuals: A Systematic Review.

PURPOSE: Multicancer detection (MCD) tests aim to detect different cancer types using a single test. However, evidence on their potential for screening asymptomatic populations remains limited. We consolidated evidence from prospective cohort studies evaluating blood-based MCD tests in primarily asymptomatic adults to contextualize upcoming randomized controlled trial results. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We updated and extended a prior review (to September 2023), conducting comprehensive Medline/Embase searches to February 1, 2026. Key outcomes included cancers detected and not detected by MCD tes

Beyond Anxiety: School Refusal as a Disrupted Individuation Process in Post-COVID Adolescents.

BackgroundThe post-COVID surge in school refusal has prompted a clinical response overwhelmingly focused on anxiety and its treatments. While this orientation is scientifically grounded, it remains partial: it fails to account for a dimension that successive lockdowns massively disrupted without the recent literature fully integrating it, namely the separation-individuation process (SIP) specific to adolescence.AimsThis article proposes a complementary and integrative reading of post-COVID school refusal, organized around three axes.ApproachFirst, lockdowns interrupted the environmental condit

[End-stage kidney disease in older adults : towards individualized decision-making].

Population aging and the high prevalence of chronic kidney disease in adults aged ≥ 65 years support a nephrogeriatric approach that integrates frailty, comorbidities, and individual care goals into the management of end-stage kidney disease. Kidney transplantation offers the greatest survival and quality of life benefits when a standard-criteria or living-donor graft is available. However, these benefits are not clearly demonstrated in older patients receiving marginal kidneys. Dialysis generally prolongs survival compared to conservative management, but this advantage diminishes with advanci

Cardiovascular Functioning Features in Individuals with Connective Tissue Dysplasia Engaged in Sports for the Disabled.

OBJECTIVES: Connective tissue dysplasia (CTD) is associated with disorders of collagen synthesis and is widely spread among the healthy population and people with disabilities. In the heart, primarily in the left ventricle (LV), CTD manifests itself as the formation of false tendons (LVFTs) to maintain close-to-normal LV pump function. This exploratory work is devoted to the search for general patterns of cardiac response to physical activity in athletes with disabilities, CTD, and LVFTs. The extent to which "the type of sports or the type of disability" determines the involvement of the heart

Relationship between microplastics in stool, diet, and inflammatory markers in healthy Japanese individuals.

BACKGROUND: Exposure to microplastics (MPs) can have adverse gastrointestinal effects by inducing inflammation and oxidative stress. The types of MPs in stool vary with the dietary intake. However, how MPs in the intestinal tract influence the inflammatory cytokine levels in the gastrointestinal tract in healthy individuals remains unclear, particularly in Japan, characterized by a high intake of vegetables and seafood. In this study, we investigated the relationship between food intake, stool MPs, and inflammatory markers in healthy Japanese individuals, and estimated the sources of the stool

Factors associated with healthcare professionals' use of stigmatizing language in individuals with diabetes in pregnancy.

BACKGROUND: Clinicians’ language can influence patient perception and engagement in care. Use of stigmatizing language, including terms such as “noncompliant”, “refused”, “failed”, and “unmotivated”, has been found to contribute to distress among individuals with diabetes in pregnancy. However, it is unclear how often healthcare professionals use stigmatizing language in the electronic health record (EHR) and the clinical factors associated with its use among birthing individuals with diabetes. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted from 2018 to 2019, focusing on individuals with

TMS-EEG correlate of suicidal ideation in individuals with depression: A multi-site synthesis.

BACKGROUND: Suicidal ideation (SI) is a leading risk factor for suicide death, with a lifetime prevalence of 35-40% in psychiatric populations. However, the neurobiology of SI remains poorly understood. Preliminary work suggests an association between SI and neurophysiological measures derived from transcranial magnetic stimulation combined with electroencephalography (TMS-EEG). METHODS: This study aims to test the association between SI and two TMS-EEG measures: the negative peak at 100 ms (N100) and the area under the curve (AUC) of the global mean field amplitude (GMFA). In this multi-site

Toxic effects induced by individual and combined exposures of glyphosate and POEA in honey bees.

Pesticide exposure remains a major driver of pollinator population decline. However, there is limited understanding of the combined toxicity of active ingredients and their adjuvants, particularly regarding its environmental risks to honey bees (Apis mellifera L.). In this study, we found that the POEA exhibited significantly higher toxicity than glyphosate. Acute toxicity tests showed that the 48-hour oral LD₅₀ for POEA and co-exposure with glyphosate was 51.306 μg·bee⁻¹ and 41.548 μg·bee⁻¹ , respectively, significantly lower than that of glyphosate (>200 μg·bee⁻¹). Both the adjuvant POEA and

Short-Term Effects of Aerobic Exercise on Brain Connectivity in Individuals With Subthreshold Depression.

BACKGROUND: Subthreshold depression (StD) is a significant risk factor for major depressive disorder (MDD). Aerobic exercise can alleviate depressive symptoms in StD over a certain period and prevent progression from StD to MDD. However, the underlying mechanisms of aerobic exercise on StD remain unclear. METHODS: The current study included 44 individuals with StD and 34 healthy controls (HCs) to perform 8-week aerobic exercise. Then we used Granger causality analysis (GCA) and frequency-dependent functional connectivity (FC) with the bilateral hippocampus to examine the between-group and wit

Exploring Attitudes Toward Transgender Individuals: The Prediction of Transphobia and Gender-Bashing in Adults.

Because transphobia has a negative impact on the mental and physical health of its victims, most studies of transphobia have focused on the victims rather than the people who perpetuate it. In light of this, the present study analyzes the significance of various sociodemographic characteristics in perpetrators of transphobia/genderism and gender bashing. It also aims to determine the role of decision-making styles, religiosity, empathy, verbal and physical aggressiveness, anger, and hostility in predicting transphobia/genderism and gender bashing. The sample consisted of 333 adults (69.1% wome

Multimodal Nutraceutical and Psychological Intervention for GGT Reduction in Individuals with Alcohol Use Disorder.

BACKGROUND: Elevated gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) is a biomarker associated with alcohol-related hepatic stress and oxidative imbalance. Although alcohol abstinence is the primary determinant of GGT normalization, adjunctive strategies may support biochemical improvement in real-world settings. METHODS: This non-randomized cohort study included 197 of 1957 screened participants (10.1%), stratified according to baseline GGT into 55-99 U/L (n = 95) and ≥100 U/L (n = 102). Participants in the higher baseline subgroup underwent a multimodal intervention consisting of nutraceutical supplementa

Adiposity and inflammation mediate altered metabolic profile in individuals with opioid use disorder.

Previous studies have linked opioid use to altered metabolic profiles, but findings have been inconsistent and mechanisms remain unclear. One potential mechanism involves increased adiposity, leading to chronic low-grade inflammation that elevates metabolic risk. Here, we examined metabolic profiles in individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) and matched non-OUD controls, focusing on the sequential mediating roles of BMI and inflammation. Data from individuals with OUD (n = 281) and non-OUD (n = 246) were drawn from a natural history screening protocol from the National Institute on Alcohol
