Risk Factor Analysis of Simple Drainage Followed by Instrumented Fusion in Patients with Pyogenic Spinal Infection.

OBJECTIVE: The first-line treatment for pyogenic spondylitis is conservative management with immobilization and systemic antibiotic therapy. However, in cases where conservative treatment fails or neurological deficits and spinal instability are present, surgical intervention is required. Surgical treatment helps manage spondylitis by decompressing neural structures through abscess drainage and maintaining spinal stability. It includes simple decompression via abscess removal, debridement of inflamed and necrotic tissues, and reconstruction with fixation. This study aims to analyze the risk fa

Development and validation of 3D super-resolution convolutional neural network for 18F-FDG-PET images.

BACKGROUND: Positron emission tomography (PET) is a valuable tool for cancer diagnosis but generally has a lower spatial resolution compared to computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). High-resolution PET scanners that use silicon photomultipliers and time-of-flight measurements are expensive. Therefore, cost-effective software-based super-resolution methods are required. This study proposes a novel approach for enhancing whole-body PET image resolution applying a 2.5-dimensional Super-Resolution Convolutional Neural Network (2.5D-SRCNN) combined with logarithmic transform

Machine learning based identification of suicidal ideation using non-suicidal predictors in a university mental health clinic.

Suicide causes over 700,000 deaths annually worldwide. Mental disorders are closely linked to suicidal ideation, but predicting suicide remains complex due to the multifaceted nature of contributing factors. Traditional assessment tools often fail to capture the interactions that drive suicidal thoughts, underscoring the need for more sophisticated predictive approaches. This study aimed to predict suicidal and self-harm ideation among university students using machine learning models without relying on suicidal behavior related predictors. The goal was to uncover less obvious risk factors and

Machine learning model for reproducing subjective sensations and alleviating sound-induced stress in individuals with developmental disorders.

INTRODUCTION: An everyday challenge frequently encountered by individuals with developmental disorders is auditory hypersensitivity, which causes distress in response to certain sounds and the overall sound environment. This study developed deep neural network (DNN) models to address this issue. One model predicts changes in subjective sound perception to quantify auditory hypersensitivity characteristics, while the other determines the modifications needed to sound stimuli to alleviate stress. These models are expected to serve as a foundation for personalized support systems for individuals

Association between high-frequency hearing sensitivity and visual cross-modal plasticity during active visual stimulus processing.

Visual cross-modal plasticity after deafness describes when the sensory cortex compensates for auditory deprivation by increasing sensitivity to visual information. Cross-modal plasticity is evident in humans and animal models with deafness and is linked to improved visual perception, but it is unclear whether this occurs for mild, partial hearing loss. Here, we investigated cross-modal plasticity in adults with mixed levels of high-frequency hearing loss, but normal mid- and low-frequency hearing sensitivity, and whether this plasticity was associated with visual short-term memory recall.
