Subretinal neovascularization associated with retinochoroidal colobomas.

The development of subretinal neovascularization as a complication of retinochoroidal coloboma has been reported in only three cases, in only one of which was the patient treated with laser photocoagulation. We report an additional case of subretinal neovascularization associated with retinochoroidal coloboma in a 57-year-old man that was treated with laser photocoagulation. The patient's visual acuity has remained stable at 20/50.

The relationship of brachiocephalic vessel atheroma to transient ischemia of the brain and retina.

The relationships between transient cerebral and retinal ischemic symptoms and brachiocephalic angiographic findings were studied in 464 patients. The arterial abnormalities were more often bilateral than the symptoms suggested. Normal angiographic appearances were common, although abnormal arteries in patients without related symptoms were also common. When stenosis of the carotid system was 75 per cent or more, there was a strong correlation with symptoms.

Physiology of the developing ocular vasculature.

A conservative view of some of the data discussed here would be that they are anecdotal, but the possibility that factors other than oxygen alone contribute to genesis of ROP is compelling, as is the possibility that clinically observed ROP is only a narrow range of a broad spectrum of retinopathies that could be produced in the immature retina were appropriate physiologic parameters varied outside the current clinically acceptable range. In this context, the significance of such preliminary investigations as these is that they should alert investigators and clinicians to look for correlations

Leber's miliary aneurysms in a 63-year-old woman: concurrence of regression and active lesions.

We examined a 63-year-old woman with retinal telangiectasia, aneurysms, a ring of fatty exudate, and pigmented chorioretinal atrophic lesions in the right eye. Leber's miliary aneurysm was diagnosed, although this disorder is known to have a high incidence mainly in young boys. The pigmented chorioretinal scars appear to be sequelae of spontaneously regressing retinal lesions.

Effect of topical epinephrine and timolol on ocular and optic nerve blood flow in phakic and aphakic rabbit eyes.

The effects of 4% epinephrine bitartrate and 0.5% timolol on ocular and optic nerve blood flow were studied in phakic and aphakic rabbit eyes using a radioactive microsphere (85Sr) technique. Either epinephrine or timolol was given topically as eight drops in the hour immediately preceding blood flow measurements (one drop every 7.5 minutes). Epinephrine decreased anterior uveal blood flow in both phakic and aphakic eyes, whereas timolol exhibited no effect. Retinal and choroidal blood flow were not affected by either timolol or epinephrine in phakic eyes. In aphakic eyes, epinephrine increase

Management of juvenile disciform lesions of the macula.

Fourteen eyes with a juvenile disciform lesion of unknown aetiology in the macula were followed up for 1-6 years. Eyes with inflammatory signs, pre-existing chorioretinal scars in the macula, or myopia of more than -5.0 dioptres were not included. Seven eyes in which the subretinal neovascular membrane ws within 200 mu from the foveola were followed-up without treatment. Of these, in 4 the new vessels underwent regression, and the result was good central vision in 3, whereas in 3 eyes the lesion progressed. Seven eyes were treated with photocoagulation: 5 with argon, 2 with krypton laser. In t

Narrow-band (540NM) green-light stereoscopic photography of the surface details of the peripapillary retina.

We used narrow-band (540-nm) green-light stereoscopic fundus photography to study the surface details of the peripapillary retina in 14 patients. Each photograph was divided into four areas; the papillomacular bundle, the upper arcuate bundle, the lower arcuate bundle, and the nasal sectorial fibers. We scored each area on a scale of 0 (normal) to 3 (total loss of nerve fiber layer), and compared these scores to those obtained by testing the corresponding visual fields. The scores were the same in 88 of 111 comparisons; the retinal scores were higher in 17 comparisons and the visual field scor

A multimodal machine-learning diagnostic model for Alzheimer's disease: integrating OCTA-derived retinal microvascular features and clinical variables.

INTRODUCTION: Alzheimer's disease (AD) lacks widely accessible, noninvasive approaches for the evaluation of AD remain limited. We developed a multimodal machine-learning model that integrates retinal microvascular features derived from optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) with clinical variables to classify AD. METHODS: In this cross-sectional case-control study, 160 participants (81 healthy controls and 79 patients with AD) underwent macular OCTA imaging. Twenty-seven superficial capillary plexus features, including vessel density (VD), perfusion density (PD), and foveal avascula

Microvascular Factors and Surgical Outcomes in Macular Telangiectasia Type 2-Associated Macular Holes Versus Idiopathic Macular Holes.

PURPOSE: Macular holes (MHs) associated with macular telangiectasia (MacTel) type 2 represent a clinically distinct subset in which visual outcomes and surgical responses may differ from those of idiopathic MHs (IMHs); however, their retinal microvascular characteristics remain poorly characterized. This study aimed to clarify these differences by using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). METHODS: This retrospective case-control study was conducted at a tertiary referral center. It included 31 eyes with MacTel type 2-associated MHs and 30 eyes with IMHs that underwent pars plana

Macular Choriocapillaris and Retinal Microvascular Alterations Across the Prediabetes-Early Type 2 Diabetes Continuum.

PURPOSE: To characterize macular microvascular alterations across the dysglycemia spectrum, from prediabetes (pre-DM) to early type 2 diabetes (T2DM), before clinically detectable diabetic retinopathy develops. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, participants with pre-DM, recent-onset T2DM, and age-matched healthy controls underwent swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography. Quantified metrics included vessel density (VD), perfusion density (PD), foveal avascular zone acircularity, and choriocapillaris flow-deficit (FD) density and size. One eye per participant was analyzed. F

Ocular perfusion in primary angle-closure suspect and primary angle-closure eyes without prior acute angle closure.

BACKGROUND: Acute intraocular pressure (IOP) spike in acute primary angle closure (APAC) decreases ocular blood flow. It is not known if this is true in primary angle-closure (PAC) eyes without prior APAC who may have had subacute attacks. Hence, we aimed to assess the ocular perfusion using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) characteristics in normal, PAC suspect (PACS), and PAC eyes without APAC. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a prospective cross-sectional study, which determined patients' (40-80 years) optic nerve peripapillary perfusion, flux, and macular vessel density (6 m

Permanent visual impairment following a Behçet's disease flare while on calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor antagonist therapy: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Behçet's disease (BD) is a chronic, relapsing, systemic vasculitis that can involve both arteries and veins. Ocular involvement, including non-granulomatous panuveitis and occlusive retinal vasculitis, is common and a significant cause of morbidity. Erenumab is a monoclonal antibody targeting the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor approved for migraine prevention Although it is generally well tolerated, recent concerns have emerged regarding its vasoconstrictive potential in patients with underlying vascular disorders. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 44-year-
