Fixation by Autogenous Cortical Plate Technique on Sites of Subtrochanteric Shortening Osteotomy Contributes to Early Bone Union in Total Hip Arthroplasty for Crowe Type IV Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip.

AIM: Subtrochanteric shortening osteotomy (SSO) is often applied during total hip arthroplasty (THA) in high hip dislocations. The aim of the present paper was to evaluate the results of fixation by autogenous cortical plate technique on sites of SSO in THA for patients with Crowe type IV developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). METHODS: We conducted a historical prospective cohort study and reviewed 67 patients (82 THAs) with SSO performed between March 2016 and May 2020. Thirty-nine patients (48 hips) obtained stability by intramedullary pressure provided by the S-ROM modular prostheses an

Clinical, Imaging, Histological and Surgical Aspects Regarding Giant Paraovarian Cysts: A Systematic Review.

Paraovarian cysts (POCs) develop within the broad ligament of the uterus. POCs are considered to be giant when the threshold of 150 mm is exceeded. Clinical signs and symptoms occur as a consequence of the pressure effect on adjacent organs or due to complications. Abdominal ultrasonography, computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging are useful imaging tools, but most often the exact origin of such voluminous cysts is revealed only by surgical exploration. The review aims to appraise and update the diagnostic, the histological aspects and the treatment of the giant POCs in rare cases. W

A Literature Review of Ozanimod Therapy in Inflammatory Bowel Disease: From Concept to Practical Application.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), namely Ulcerative Colitis (UC) and Crohn's Disease (CD), is believed to be due to a dysregulation of the innate immune response. The complexity of the immune cascade offers both a challenge and an opportunity to researchers seeking out new treatments for IBD, as various points along the inflammatory pathways can be targeted for interruption. Sphinogosine-1-phosphate (S1P) is a phospholipid molecule with wide ranging biological effects caused by binding five known S1P receptor subtypes. Ozanimod is a small molecule drug that selectively targets S1P receptors 1

Evaluating the Safety of Maribavir for the Treatment of Cytomegalovirus.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections are a common complication in solid organ (SOT) and hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients, leading to increased morbidity and mortality. Currently available treatment options have reduced the burden of infection, but utilization of these agents can be limited by toxicities such as nephrotoxicity and/or myelosuppression as well as emergence of resistance. The expansion of our current armamentarium towards CMV infection is crucial. Here, we review an emerging therapy, maribavir, and the safety and efficacy of this potential new ag

Current Opinion on Pixantrone in the Treatment of Non-Hodgkin B-Cell Lymphoma.

Not many treatment options exist for patients with relapsed or refractory (R/R) B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) in whom first- and second-line therapies were unsuccessful. This is especially true for patients with aggressive lymphomas. The innovative agent pixantrone has shown some promising results in terms of disease-free and overall survival, both in monotherapy as well as in combinations. However, recent trials (Phase III and real-world studies) reported unsatisfactory results, thereby raising the question about the role of pixantrone in the current treatment of R/R aggressive lymphomas.
