Financing STI testing among men in China: A mixed-methods study of pay-it-forward monetary donations.

AIM: Many STI testing services are underfunded. Pay-it-forward is a strategy to support STI testing that asks participants to donate money to spur others to receive STI testing. To explore factors influencing monetary donations, we performed a secondary analysis of data from a randomized controlled trial that evaluated a pay-it-forward strategy to increase STI testing among men in China. METHODS: We used a convergent parallel mixed-methods design to analyze data from the RCT and semi-structured interviews. Correlates of monetary donations were identified using logistic regression. Interview r

Modulating mechanisms of adverse childhood experiences in a mindfulness-based intervention: preliminary insights from an opioid use disorder study.

INTRODUCTION: Adverse childhood experiences (ACE) are transdiagnostic developmental risk factors for various mental and physical health issues, including Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). Existing research demonstrated ACE not only affects the onset, severity, and comorbidity of disorders, but also affects treatment responses. To investigate whether and how ACE modulates treatment effects of Mindfulness Based Intervention (MBI), we conducted secondary analysis on the longitudinal data from a recent clinical trial on the effects of a MBI during outpatient buprenorphine treatment. METHODS: Using data

Associations between cardiac rehabilitation structure and processes and dietary habits after myocardial infarction: a nationwide registry study.

AIMS: Improved dietary habits are important for successful secondary prevention after myocardial infarction (MI), with counselling and support on healthy dietary habits constituting a cornerstone of cardiac rehabilitation (CR). However, there is limited knowledge on how to optimize CR organization to motivate patients to adopt healthy dietary habits. We aimed to explore associations between CR programme structure, processes, and self-reported dietary habits 1 year post-MI. METHODS AND RESULTS: Organizational data from 73 Swedish CR centres and patient-level data from 5248 CR patients were ana

Non-Operative Management for Patients With Spinal Ankylosing Disorders Presenting With Extension Type (AOSpine B3) Fractures-Our Experience with a Cohort of 40 Patients.

Study DesignRetrospective study.BackgroundNon-operative treatment for patients with spinal ankylosing disorders presenting with extension type fractures (AOSpine B3) has been disregarded due to reports of poor outcomes including secondary fracture displacement and unacceptably high mortality rates. Recent studies have questioned the prevailing recommendation for surgical management, advocating for reconsideration of non-operative treatment in appropriate cases. We aim to further identify patient and radiographic factors favoring successful non-operative management.MethodsA retrospective analys

Improving the arthritis component of the SLEDAI-2K.

OBJECTIVE: To propose a new definition for SLEDAI arthritis informed by imaging. METHODS: We performed a planned secondary analysis of observational data from a multicentre study evaluating SLE patients with inflammatory joint pain (swelling not required) using various clinical instruments, laboratory tests and ultrasound. For SLEDAI arthritis, assessors (blinded to ultrasound) were asked which of the glossary terms for arthritis in any version of the SLEDAI drove their decision to score for arthritis. These definitions were tested against ultrasound and other clinical variables. ROC analysis

Plasma proteome and incident myocardial infarction: sex-specific differences.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Few population-based cohort studies, including both men and women, have explored circulating proteins associated with incident myocardial infarction (MI). This study investigated the relationships between circulating cardiometabolic-related proteins and MI risk using cohort-based and Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses and explored potential sex-specific differences. METHODS: The discovery cohort included 11 751 Swedish adults (55-93 years). Data on 259 proteins assessed with Olink proximity extension assays, biochemical, and questionnaire-based information were used. P

The experience of feeling old after a fragility fracture.

BACKGROUND: There has been little exploration of the effect of fragility fractures on patient perceptions of their age. The common assumption is that fractures "happen to old people". In individuals with a fragility fracture, our objective was to explore the experience of feeling old after sustaining a fragility fracture. METHODS: A secondary analysis of data from 145 community-dwelling women and men participating in six qualitative primary studies was conducted relying on a phenomenological approach. Participants were English-speaking, 45 years and older, who had sustained a recent fragility

Assessment of whole-site methane emissions from anaerobic digestion plants: Towards establishing emission factors for various plant configurations.

This study examines methane (CH4) emission factors from biogas and wastewater treatment plants, based on primary and secondary data collected from 109 facilities. Primary emission data were measured at 19 facilities representing prevalent plant configurations across Europe. Statistical analysis highlights two categorical variables, namely primary feedstock and plant size, expressed as CH4 production (≤250 kgh-1: small and medium-sized plants, >250 kgh-1: large plants), each of which has a significant impact on whole-site CH4 emissions. Additionally, digestate storage (gastight vs. not-gastight
