A capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) method has been developed to separate and quantitate naphazoline (NAPH), dyphenhydramine (DIP) and phenylephrine (PHE) in nasal solutions. Samples were diluted 1:25 in ultrapure water and injected at the anodic end. We report a rare case of contact urticaria due to polyethylene gloves. The patient, a 46-year-old cook, had had had chronic urticaria since 1985, and first visited our hospital in June 2000. We began by prescribing antihistamine and antiallergenic drugs for him, but his condition did not improve. From a detailed interview, we established that when he put on polyethylene gloves at work, his condition worsened. We suspected some component of his gloves to be the cause of his symptoms. A computer simulation program was used to optimize the separation for six kava pyrones and two unidentified components obtaining the best resolution and the shortest run time. With DryLab it was possible to find the best separation conditions without running a large number of possible combination of variables in the laboratory. The chiral separation of loxoprofen was achieved on a chiral column with UV and circular dichroism (CD) detection. The good resolution of four loxoprofen stereoisomers was obtained. The column used for the chiral separation was Chiralcel OJ column (250 x 4.6 mm) using hexane-2-propanol-trifluoroacetic acid (95:5:0.1), as an eluent. This in vitro study investigates the conditions under which "compound 305" is formed. Using HPLC, ESR as well as UV spectroscopy, "compound 305" was largely separated and characterized. It has an absorption peak at 314 nm, which changes after reoxygenation to shorter wavelengths within hours. The retention time of "compound 305" amounts to 10.93 +/- 0.042 min. A method for the simultaneous determination of losartan potassium and hydrochlorothiazide in tablets is described. The procedure, based on the use of reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, is linear in the concentration range 3.0-7.0 microg ml(-1) for losartan and 0.5-2.0 microg ml(-1) for hydrochlorothiazide, is simple and rapid and allows accurate and precise results. The limit of detection was 0.08 microg ml(-1) for losartan and 0.05 microg ml(-1) for hydrochlorothiazide.

Pharmacokinetic studies indicate that clearance of propofol, an anesthetic agent, is slower in greyhounds compared with other dog breeds. Biotransformation of propofol to 2,6-diisopropyl-1,4-quinol (4-hydroxypropofol) by cytochrome P-450 in the liver is proposed as a critical initial step in the elimination of this drug in dogs. A simple colorimetric method for the determination of D-penicillamine in pure form and pharmaceutical formulations is described. The method is based on coupling between D-penicillamine and 2,6-dichloroquinone-4-chlorimide (DCQ) in dimethylsulphoxide.
