Navigating into the Chemical Space of Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors by Artificial Intelligence and Cheminformatics Approach.

The monoamine oxidase (MAO) enzyme class is a prevalent target for many neurodegenerative and depressive disorders. Even though scrutinization of many promising drugs for the treatment of MAO inhibition has been carried out in recent times, a conclusive structural requirement for potent activity needs to be developed. Numerous approaches have been examined for the identification of structural features for potent MAO inhibitors (MAOIs) that mainly involve an array of computational studies, synthetic approaches, and biological evaluation. In this paper, we have analyzed ∼2200 well-known MAOIs to

Constructions of HIV Risk Among a Diverse Sample of HIV-Negative Young Men Who Have Sex With Men Who Are Repeat Testers.

INTRODUCTION: To end the HIV epidemic, HIV prevention and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) promotion efforts must reach young men who have sex with men (YMSM) at greatest risk for HIV. This study qualitatively explored whether common metrics used by clinicians, scientists, and public health officials to objectively assess HIV risk align with how YMSM conceptualize their risk for HIV and the factors that shape YMSM's risk perceptions. METHODS: Interviews with a racially/ethnically diverse sample of HIV-negative YMSM (ages 19-24 years, 60% Latinx; n = 20) examined conceptualizations of HIV risk

Perceptions and Preferences of Laypersons in the Management of Positional Plagiocephaly.

BACKGROUND: Uncertain clinical evidence for treating positional plagiocephaly, especially with helmet therapy, creates difficulties in counseling parents of patients. This study investigates layperson perceptions and treatment preferences for positional plagiocephaly to provide patient-oriented evidence for management. METHODS: Adult laypersons were recruited through crowdsourcing to view digitally-modified images of normal, mildly, moderately, or severely plagiocephalic infant heads. Participants provided demographic information and rated the infant's head shape and potential related social

Effects of rehabilitation training on an elderly population with mild to moderate hearing loss: study protocol for a randomised clinical trial.

Background: Age-related hearing loss (presbycusis) is a form of hearing loss in over 60-years-olds and has a negative impact on quality of life. Presbycusis is multifactorial and is predominately characterised with a loss of speech perception in noise. In the cochlea, auditory filters decompose broadband sound into a series of narrowband output signals, which contains two kinds of temporal information: slow changes in overall amplitude envelope (ENV) and faster variations in temporal fine structure (TFS). TFS is important for recognition of target speech in noise. The main aim of the study is

PrEP4Love: The Role of Messaging and Prevention Advocacy in PrEP Attitudes, Perceptions, and Uptake Among YMSM and Transgender Women.

BACKGROUND: Despite high efficacy, use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) remains low among young men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TW), primarily because of barriers such as stigma and resource awareness. We evaluated a social marketing campaign known as PrEP4Love that works to eliminate PrEP stigma; and awareness gaps through targeted advertising. SETTING: Chicago, Illinois. METHODS: Participants were enrolled within a cohort study of young MSM and TW (RADAR). Data were collected between June 2017 and April 2018 from HIV-negative individuals attending a follow-up visit

Telephone versus in-person colorectal cancer risk and screening intervention for first-degree relatives: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Having a first-degree relative (FDR) with colorectal cancer (CRC) is a significant risk factor for CRC. Counseling for FDRs regarding CRC risk factors and personalized risk is important to improve knowledge and screening compliance. METHODS: A 3-arm randomized controlled trial compared tailored in-person and telephone CRC counseling interventions with controls among FDRs who were not mutation carriers for known hereditary cancer syndromes, but who were considered to be at an increased risk based on family history. It was hypothesized that both telephone and in-person approaches wo

Exploring the popularity, experiences, and beliefs surrounding gluten-free diets in nonceliac athletes.

Adherence to a gluten-free diet (GFD) for nonceliac athletes (NCA) has become increasingly popular despite a paucity of supportive medical or ergogenic evidence. This study aimed to quantify the demographics of NCA and determine associated experiences, perceptions, and sources of information related to GFD. Athletes (n = 910, female = 528, no gender selected = 5) completed a 17-question online survey. Forty-one percent of NCA respondents, including 18-world and/or Olympic medalists, follow a GFD 50-100% of the time (GFD > 50): only 13% for treatment of reported medical conditions with 57% self

Attitudes and acceptance of First Person Authorization: a national comparison of donor and nondonor families.

BACKGROUND: First Person Authorization (i.e., donor designation) legislation makes indicating one's intent to be a posthumous organ donor legally binding, much like a living will or advance directive. Such legislation is the most recent in a long history of organ donation policies in the United States and has received little attention in the literature. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study recruited nine US organ procurement organizations (OPOs) and their staff who make requests for organ donation as well as family decision makers approached by OPO staff about organ donation. Electronic sensors for assessing interactions between healthcare workers and patients under airborne precautions.

BACKGROUND: Direct observation has been widely used to assess interactions between healthcare workers (HCWs) and patients but is time-consuming and feasible only over short periods. We used a Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) system to automatically measure HCW-patient interactions. METHODS: We equipped 50 patient rooms with fixed sensors and 111 HCW volunteers with mobile sensors in two clinical wards of two hospitals. For 3 months, we recorded all interactions between HCWs and 54 patients under airborne precautions for suspected (n = 40) or confirmed (n = 14) tuberculosis. Number
