Anthrax, caused by the spore-forming bacterium Bacillus anthracis, is rarely seen in industrial nations but is common in developing countries. Cutaneous anthrax (CA), the most common form of the disease, accounts for 95% of cases and usually develops on exposed sites. This study reports the use of intravesical gemcitabine in managing patients with high-risk bladder cancer, refractory to Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG). Patients were given gemcitibine; treatment response was evaluated by fluorescence-cystoscopy biopsy and urine cytology. Time to reoccurrence increased with instillation time.

The synthesis of some novel imidazole-based dicationic sulfonophanes incorporating various spacer units is described. All the sulphonophanes exhibit good antibacterial and antifungal activity against five bacterial strains Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio cholera, Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris and human pathogenic fungus Candida albicans.

Staphylococcus epidermidis and a Gram negative bacillus (GNB) were isolated in blood cultures from a 68-year-old male with cancer. The GNB was suspicious for Brucella spp., but was identified using 16S rDNA sequencing as Aureimonas altamirensis. The complexity of the identification is described in this case study.
