Factors affecting the inhibition of ox brain glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) by the antipsychotic drug perphenazine have been studied. Inhibition was found to be of mixed type with respect to 2-oxoglutarate and competitive towards NADH. However, the data indicate that perphenazine binds to a site distinct from the catalytic site to which NADH binds. Perphenazine also enhanced the high-substrate inhibition by these two substrates. From 1982 to 1985, 26 patients with malignant trophoblastic tumor were treated. Of them, 8 patients developed brain metastasis. Seven out of these 8 patients were treated with 60Co whole brain radiotherapy. The total dose on the longitudinal mid-plane of brain was 3300 cGy/2-3 weeks. Four patients were cured, 3 of them have survived without recurrence or sequelae for 6.5, 6 and 4.5 years, respectively; the other one died of liver metastasis 1 year after radiotherapy. Radiotherapy is an effective method in the combined treatment for brain metastasis of malignant trophoblastic tumors.

Vascular malformations are a common cause of spontaneous brain-stem hemorrhage in young normotensive individuals. These lesions are no longer cryptic. Red blood cell polyamine levels have been determined in patients with various histologically confirmed brain tumours. Increased spermine and spermidine levels were found in most patients with perifocal oedema demonstrated by CT; no correlation was found to other CT variables, nor to tumour localization. From 1975 through 1988, 25 patients with a brain metastasis from a breast cancer received treatments that varied, according to their systemic condition. Computed tomographic (CT) brain scans were performed in 50 inpatients with bulimia nervosa, 50 anorectic inpatients, and 50 age-matched control subjects. The facial expressions of six basic emotions were posed by two groups of right (N = 23) and left (N = 34) brain damaged patients and by a control group of normal subjects (N = 28). The common supratentorial congenital malformations of the brain were analyzed with magnetic resonance (MR) at the Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago over a two-year period. Three hundred children with one or more of the following congenital malformations were imaged with MR: (1) dysgenesis of the corpus callosum; (2) holoprosencephaly; (3) migrational disorders; (4) cephaloceles; and (5) septo-optic dysplasia. The characteristic findings in each of these disorders are described based on the MR scans as well as the clinical spectrum.
