We studied the presence of the mineralocorticoid receptor (MCR) in the eye with the aid of a number of immunochemical techniques. Immunoblot … limiting membranes, the vitreous base lining and in the pigment epithelium. Epithelial cells of the ciliary body, iris and cornea also exhibited strong MCR-specific immunofluorescence. PURPOSE: To report a patient with unilateral vision loss and neovascular glaucoma after attempted superior ophthalmic vein embolization in the treatment of a carotid-cavernous sinus fistula.
METHODS: A 69-year-old man with a history of a left dural carotid-cavernous sinus fistula underwent attempted treatment with superior ophthalmic vein embolization. The procedure was unsuccessful, and the left superior ophthalmic vein was ligated.
RESULTS: Uncontrolled left proptosis and intraocular pressure necessitated urgent orbital decompression with severe vision loss and neovascular glaucoma.

METHODS: Thirty-nine consecutive patients with diabetic retinopathy underwent ultrasound biomicroscopy of both eyes to image the ciliochoroidal space immediately before and 1 day after unilateral argon-green panretinal photocoagulation. Prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGF 2 alpha) and its analog latanoprost are effective in lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) in both animal and human subjects. The pterygopalatine parasympathetic innervation of the rat choroid, lacrimal glands and ciliary ganglion was ultrastructurally studied by anterograde 3H-leucine tracing. Numerous unmyelinated fibers and vesicle-containing terminals were labeled in these structures. No direct synaptic contacts were found. We used transscleral Neodymium:YAG laser cyclophotocoagulation (TSYLCC) to treat 47 patients (47 eyes) with end-stage, refractory, or absolute glaucoma. Pseudoexfoliation (PE) material has been studied pathologically. However, there are no reports about intraocular muscle function in pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PXS). We studied intraocular muscle function in 12 patients (70.3 +/- 10.1 years of age) with ipsilateral PE material by measuring the time course of pupillary diameter change and accommodogram. The role of protein kinase C (PKC) in the desensitization of muscarinic receptor-mediated responses in bovine ciliary muscle was examined. Exposure of the bovine ciliary muscle to phorbol esters, used to activate PKC, resulted in antagonism of muscarinic receptor-mediated contraction.
