This communication reviews shortly the main structural and functional characteristics of Noxiustoxin, a 39 amino acid residue peptide, maintained closely packed by three-disulfide bridges and its effects on excitable membranes. In this review, we discuss the possible relationship between the clinical characteristics and the multiple integration of human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I) proviral DNA in patients with adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL). The karyotypic characteristics and clonal composition of human normal diploid MRC-5 (46,XY) and tumorigenic SK-UT-1 (45,XX,-13) and SK-UT-IB (46,XX) cell lines were studied. The characteristics of a monoclonal antibody produced against osteoclast-like multinucleated cells (MNCs) formed in rat bone marrow cultures were examined immunohistochemically and biochemically.
