Gaze aversion and emotional mimicry deficits in individuals with schizophrenia during naturalistic interaction.

Individuals with schizophrenia exhibit a range of verbal and nonverbal impairments during social interaction, which contribute to reduced interaction quality and broader social dysfunction. To optimize clinical interventions, it is essential to identify the mechanisms underlying these deficits. Building on previous findings demonstrating reduced emotional mimicry in schizophrenia, the present study examined whether gaze aversion is associated with instances of failed mimicry during naturalistic conversation. In a within-partner design, interacting partners (n = 20) each engaged in one conversa

Clinical and Genetic Findings in Two Japanese Individuals With SET-Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder.

SET-related neurodevelopmental disorder (OMIM #618106) is an emerging condition for which the phenotypic spectrum remains incompletely defined. We report two unrelated Japanese individuals with distinct genomic alterations affecting SET: a de novo frameshift variant and a heterozygous 9q34.11 microdeletion encompassing the gene. Both individuals presented with global developmental delay, intellectual disability, and overlapping craniofacial features, including a broad nasal bridge, broad nasal tip, wide mouth, and periorbital fullness. These features were broadly consistent with those describe

Multilevel ecotoxicological responses of Allium cepa to atrazine and glyphosate applied individually and in combination.

Glyphosate and atrazine are among the most extensively applied herbicides worldwide and are often detected together in aquatic environments due to their concurrent agricultural use. This study investigated their individual and combined effects on Allium cepa at environmentally realistic concentrations: 62.5-1000 µg L⁻¹ for glyphosate and 0.25-4 µg L⁻¹ for atrazine. Five mixtures were also tested: M1 (62.5 + 0.25), M2 (125 + 0.5), M3 (250 + 1), M4 (500 + 2), and M5 (1000 + 4). Multiple endpoints were analyzed, including germination, root elongation, mitotic index, chromosomal and mitotic abnorm

Anonymous Digital Therapy May Increase Help-Seeking Among Stigmatized Individuals.

Child sexual abuse (CSA) and child sexual abuse material (CSAM) exist in a "Dark Field" (German: Dunkelfeld), where a vast majority of incidents occur without ever becoming known to authorities. Therapy is a potential strategy in reducing CSA offence risk and CSAM consumption. However, public stigma towards individuals with a sexual interest in children (ISIC) is extensive and hostile to a level that discourages engagement of ISIC in therapy. Implementation of measures to reduce the barriers to therapy for ISIC is critical to improve the mental well-being of ISIC, improve coping strategies, an

A proposed North American approach for genetic testing of individuals at risk for malignant hyperthermia.

Malignant hyperthermia, a pharmacogenetic disorder of skeletal muscle, is a potentially fatal reaction triggered by exposure to volatile anesthetics or succinylcholine. Genetic testing of the three known involved genes (RYR1, CACNA1S, and STAC3) has become the first line of testing for malignant hyperthermia susceptibility. However, genetic testing has sensitivity of only up to 70%. Contracture testing may be used to rule out the disorder for some individuals. This study outlines a stepwise approach, using clinical history and assessment as well as interpretation of genetic variants to balance

DNA methylation informs adult cardiovascular risk and prevention for low birthweight individuals.

BACKGROUND: Barker's hypothesis posits that adverse in utero exposures, often reflected by low birthweight, increase adult cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. However, underlying mechanisms remain unclear; identifying potentially causal mediators is crucial for developing effective interventions. Emerging research suggests epigenetic modifications may influence CVD traits from early life. We aimed to identify DNA methylation (DNAm) signatures that mediate birthweight and CVD traits and to establish their biological relevance across three developmental time points using multi-omics integration.

The Impact of Nurse Home-Visiting for Pregnant and Parenting Individuals with Previous Live Births.

The Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) benefits first-time parents and their children; however, its effectiveness for families with previous children (multiparous) is not known. This quasi-experimental study used electronic health record data from three NFP sites affiliated with large health systems to evaluate the impact of NFP on pregnancy, birth, and health care utilization outcomes among multiparous families compared with propensity score-matched Medicaid-insured families who did not receive NFP. The study population included 639 multiparous pregnant individuals enrolled in NFP between 2017 an

Fetal abdominal circumference and adverse perinatal outcomes in pregnant individuals with pregestational diabetes.

BACKGROUND: Disturbances in fetal growth (ie, growth restriction and macrosomia) are associated with increased risk of perinatal morbidity and mortality. Although fetal abdominal circumference (AC) was recently added to the definition of fetal growth restriction, less is known about the performance of small AC specifically among pregnant individuals with diabetes as well as the clinical utility of large AC. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the association between fetal AC and adverse outcomes in pregnant individuals with pregestational DM. STUDY DESIGN: This was a retrospective cohort study of preg
