Uric acid is the end product of the purine metabolism in the human and is mainly excreted to the urine. The studies on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) uric acid in patients with various neurological diseases were reported in the literature. In the present study the authors discussed the clinical value of the sequential study of the CSF uric acid content in patients with brain tumors. CSF was investigated for uric acid in 23 controls and 30 cases of brain tumor. This article describes a fertility study based on 490 cases of surgically treated undescended testicles. Some of the patients were seen very early, and others later, even after puberty. The results are assessed as a function of the onset of pregnancy, or, failing this, on the basis of spermograms, and as a function of whether one or both testicles were undescended. Among the married patients with a unilateral complaint, the paternity rate was 69 p. cent, failing to 43 per cent for bilateral cases. Nine of 12 girls diagnosed consecutively as having severe and longstanding primary hypothyroidism were found to have multicystic ovaries when evaluated by pelvic ultrasound examination. The cysts resolved rapidly with thyroid replacement therapy. The patients had either elevated or high normal plasma luteinizing hormone levels which decreased markedly after thyroid therapy. Gonadectomy resulted in a rapid increase in plasma luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) levels, but had no consistent effects on plasma prolactin (PRL) and growth hormone (GH) levels. Using indwelling atrial cannulae, temporal changes in the blood levels of six hormones were monitored in sexually rested vs. sexually sated males before and during their exposure to receptive females. This paper describes the conceptual basis for assessing the hazard of continuous exposures to acutely toxic chemicals. It is stressed that the variability of workers' short-term exposures to airborne chemicals must be considered in establishing strategic criteria which define an acceptable (or unacceptable) environment. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent of oral contraceptive (OC) exposure of women with secondary amenorrhea of hypothalamic-pituitary etiology. Detailed neuroendocrine studies were carried out in a patient with histiocytosis X involving the hypothalamus. She presented with amenorrhea, galactorrhea, and diabetes insipidus. The diagnosis was established through needle biopsy with the aid of a computerized tomography (CT) scanner. The basic pathology and clinical features of the disease are outlined, with particular emphasis on the endocrine abnormalities seen in isolated hypothalamic histiocytosis X.

A patient with acromegaly, pituitary enlargement, and elevated plasma GH levels also had a bronchial carcinoid tumor. Signs and symptoms of active acromegaly along with elevated GH levels persisted for 11 yr after hypophysectomy and pituitary stalk section. Resection of the bronchial carcinoid reduced plasma GH to barely detectable levels.
