Association between premenstrual syndrome severity and musculoskeletal pain among nursing students: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Musculoskeletal pain is highly prevalent among nursing students and may negatively affect their physical functioning and readiness for clinical practice. Premenstrual syndrome (PMS), characterized by physical and psychological symptoms, has been suggested to be associated with pain sensitivity and musculoskeletal discomfort. However, the relationship between PMS severity and musculoskeletal pain in nursing students has not been well established. METHODS: This study employed a descriptive cross-sectional design and included 257 female nursing students. Data were collected using the

Broadening Our Bandwidth: A Multiple Case Report of Expanded Use of Telehealth Technology to Perform Wound Consultations During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

BACKGROUND: Managing patients during the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, and the associated severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) in particular, required the nimble responsiveness for which WOC nurses are known. Problem-solving skills were needed to continue the level of WOC nursing services expected by patients, families, and professional colleagues, while reducing the hours we were physically present at our clinical facility. In order to respond to these demands, our team realized it must create an innovative approach to provide efficient, cost-ef

Patient-related stressful situations and stress-related outcomes in emergency nurses: A cross-sectional study on the role of work factors and recovery during leisure time.

BACKGROUND: Emergency nurses are frequently exposed to patient-related stressful situations, making them susceptible to emotional exhaustion and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. The current study aims to assess differential effects of patient-related stressful situations (emotionally demanding situations, aggression/conflict situations, and critical events) on stress-related outcomes in emergency nurses, and to identify moderating factors based on the Job Demands-Resources model and the Effort-Recovery model (job demands, job resources, and recovery experiences during leisure time).

Characteristics of persons and jobs with needlestick injuries in a national data set.

BACKGROUND: Physicians, nurses, and others are at risk of needlesticks, yet little national information is available regarding incidence across demographic and occupational categories. METHODS: Analysis was conducted on national data on occupational injuries for 1992-2003 from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Because BLS data were limited to cases with 1 or more days of work loss, and reasons related to reporting of incidents, the data only reflected a subset of all needlesticks. Nevertheless, the data were internally consistent across categories so that relative magnitudes were reliable

Reducing catheter-associated urinary tract infections: standardising practice.

Inspired by innovations in catheter practice from the USA, in 2014 Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust introduced catheterisation standardisation across the Trust's two acute sites. Standardisation was achieved by the introduction of an all-in one catheterisation tray (Bard® Tray), which included all the necessary equipment required for catheterisation, coupled with a training programme. The introduction of the tray was followed by a clinically significant 80% reduction in the CAUTI rate from 2014 to 2016. This reduction in CAUTI rate provided the Trust with a considerable reduction on a

Reconceptualizing de-escalation in mental health care: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Patient aggression is a pervasive challenge in global mental healthcare. Although de-escalation is a cornerstone of non-coercive care, a significant theory-practice gap persists. This is often attributed to a research focus on fragmented techniques rather than on de-escalation as a continuous, relational process embedded in clinical practice. This gap is particularly pronounced in China's unique socio-cultural context, characterized by high-context communication and pronounced hierarchical power dynamics, which directly shape trust-building and authority navigation during de-escala
