Longitudinal Examination of Sexual (Re)victimization and Maturing Out of Problem Drinking from College to Adulthood.

The present study examined how young women's history of sexual victimization (SV) and revictimization affects the process of "maturing out" of heavy episodic drinking (HED) and drinking to cope (DTC) motivation from college to adulthood. Data were from a longitudinal burst study of college students at a northeastern university. Female students were surveyed in Wave 1 (college; N = 583, Mage = 19.1), Wave 2 (post-college; n = 507, Mage = 24.5), and Wave 3 (adulthood; n = 429, Mage = 30.8). SV history, HED, and DTC were assessed at each wave, with drinking outcomes measured daily during a 30-day

Physiological Age and Homeostatic Dysregulation Following Child Maltreatment in Youth.

Child maltreatment has been associated with biological hallmarks of aging, including telomere shortening and epigenetic instability; however, its influence on physiological age and homeostatic dysregulation in early life remains unclear. The current study examined pediatric versions of physiological age and homeostatic dysregulation in children aged 8-13 with and without exposure to maltreatment. Maltreatment exposure was determined based on investigational records within 12 months prior to enrollment. Physiological measures were trained and validated utilizing external datasets - the National

Favorable Long-term Outcomes Following Arthroscopic Preservation Surgery for Pediatric and Adolescent Discoid Lateral Meniscus.

BACKGROUND: Discoid lateral meniscus (DLM) is a congenital anomaly associated with increased risk of tearing and peripheral rim instability due to abnormal morphology and deficient capsular attachments. While total meniscectomy was historically performed, long-term complications have prompted a shift toward arthroscopic saucerization with or without repair. Though midterm outcomes are favorable, long-term data remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate long-term clinical outcomes following arthroscopic preservation surgery for symptomatic DLM and compare results between saucerization alone a

Should bilateral (versus unilateral) bone marrow biopsies be routine in paediatric classical Hodgkin Lymphoma where PET-CT is unavailable?

INTRODUCTION: Paediatric classical Hodgkin Lymphoma (cHL) can be treated successfully with modern therapeutic regimens. In the context of risk-adapted treatment strategies, accurate staging and risk stratification are crucial to improve outcomes. Although fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) detects bone marrow (BM) involvement accurately in cHL and is recommended over BM biopsies in the staging of paediatric cHL, this imaging modality is not widely available in most African countries, and BM biopsies continue to be performed. CASE PRESENTATION: An 8-ye

Developmental literacy and epistemic dignity as primary child protection: a developmentally staged, disability-inclusive public-health framework for preventing adverse childhood experiences.

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), toxic stress, relational insecurity, and structural adversity are major public-health concerns for children and adolescents, but ACE evidence should not be treated as an individual diagnostic score or deterministic prognosis. This Hypothesis and Theory article proposes developmental literacy and epistemic dignity as linked upstream constructs for primary child protection. Developmental literacy is defined as developmentally staged and disability-inclusive neurobiopsychosocial knowledge and skills concerning bodies, emotions, stress, attachment, co-regulati

Investigation of the Neurocognitive Characteristics of Parents of Children Diagnosed With Autism Spectrum Disorder: A CANTAB-Based Study.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a highly heritable neurodevelopmental condition whose genetic underpinnings may manifest as subclinical cognitive and behavioral traits in first-degree relatives, including parents of diagnosed individuals. Assessing parental cognitive profiles is valuable for identifying Broad Autism Phenotype (BAP) endophenotypes. Accordingly, this study examined possible cognitive endophenotypes by comparing neurocognitive profiles of parents (mothers and fathers) of children with ASD versus parents of neurotypical children. This cross-sectional study included 124 parents o

Progress towards the elimination of vertical transmission of HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B in 21 high-burden countries.

INTRODUCTION: Elimination of mother-to-child transmission (EMTCT) of HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B by 2030 is a global goal endorsed by countries. To achieve EMTCT, countries need to meet targets for programme and impact indicators. METHODS: We examined progress and gaps in service delivery across the three infections among 21 countries with a high burden of HIV, syphilis and/or hepatitis B. We summarized national coverage of interventions to prevent vertical transmission of HIV, hepatitis B and syphilis. Service coverage indicators were extracted from public data sources for the most recent

Impact of Parental Health Beliefs on Early Childhood Caries: A Two-Year Longitudinal Study.

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: Early childhood caries (ECC) is a widespread chronic condition that significantly affect children's health and well-being. Although parental psychosocial factors are key to shaping children's oral health behaviours, few studies have examined the distinct influences of fathers' vs mothers' health beliefs. The Health Belief Model (HBM) - which examines health behaviours through perceived susceptibility, severity, benefits, barriers, and self-efficacy - provides a valuable framework for examining these dynamics. This study applied the HBM to investigate the associations bet

Cross-cultural Adaptation of the Dental Neglect Scale for 5-year-old Children in Peru.

AIMS AND BACKGROUND: The Dental Neglect Scale (DNS) is an instrument to measure the magnitude of negligence in dental care, which was initially created in English and aimed at adolescents. In 2021, Soares et al. published a cross-cultural adaptation of this questionnaire into Portuguese. The aim of this study is to cross-culturally adapt and validate a novel Spanish version of the DNS in 5-year-old children. This will allow evidence of dental neglect, guide further preventive measures in this population, and provide multidisciplinary support. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We followed the protocol su

Utilities Associated with the Treatment of Growth Hormone Deficiency (GHD): A Time Trade-off (TTO) Study in the UK and Canada.

PURPOSE: Growth hormone deficiency (GHD) causes decreased growth rate in children, resulting in short stature in childhood and adulthood. Daily subcutaneous injections with growth hormone (GH) have been standard treatment. Newer weekly GH formulations now exist. This study estimates utilities associated with GHD treatment for both people with the disease and caregivers by employing time trade-off (TTO) methodology. METHODS: Three online surveys were conducted amongst the general population in the UK and Canada. Based on a pilot, data collection was conducted in two surveys only (Survey A and

Interpersonal neural synchrony across levels of interpersonal closeness and social interactivity.

Interpersonal neural synchrony is a fundamental aspect of social interactions, offering insights into the neural mechanisms underlying human connection and developmental outcomes. So far, hyperscanning studies have examined synchrony across different dyads and tasks, leading to inconsistencies in experimental findings and limiting cross-study comparability. This variability has posed challenges for building a unified theoretical framework for neural synchrony. This study investigated the effects of interpersonal closeness and social interactivity on neural synchrony using functional near-infra

Comparative Evaluation of Stress Distribution Pattern between Modified and Conventional Mouthguard on Maxillary Jaw when Standardized Forces are Applied Horizontally in a 14-year-old Child: A Three-dimensional Finite Element Analysis.

AIMS AND BACKGROUND: Conventional mouthguards, due to their increased thickness, are uncomfortable for the players. To increase the acceptability of mouthguards among players, this led to the development of a mouthguard that is 4 mm thick anteriorly and 2 mm thick posteriorly. In order to recommend this modified mouthguard to players, we need to find out its stress distribution pattern. For this, finite element analysis can be done in vitro. To evaluate and compare the stress distribution pattern of the modified and conventional mouthguards when exposed to a standardized force of 614 N horizonta
