A 52-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of abnormal shadow of the left lung. Chest computed tomography (CT) showed a 10.0 x 6.6 cm mass arising from the left chest wall. The diagnosis of grade II chondrosarcoma was made with CT guided percutaneous needle biopsy. At operation, the irregularly-shaped tumor was arising from the 7th rib. Chest wall resection and partial resection of the left lower lobe including the tumor was performed. Mercury is a global pollutant that can transform into methylmercury, a highly toxic and bioaccumulative organic form. Previous surveys have shown that fish is the main source of human methylmercury exposure, whereas most other food products have an average value below 20 microg/kg and primarily in the inorganic form. We report a case of a 13-year-old girl with an osteosarcoma of the right humerus, which had been diagnosed as an aneurysmal bone cyst at our institution. She underwent curettage and bone grafting of the lesion, which resulted in implantation metastasis of the tumour to the ilium. She died 15 months after presentation owing to pulmonary metastases. This report highlights the possibility of metastasis occurring by direct implantation to a graft donor site. We strongly recommend that a biopsy be performed in cases of presumed benign lesions before proceeding with the definitive surgery.

We present a 6-year-old girl with cerebellar medulloblastoma causing obstructive hydrocephalus that was treated by ventriculoperitoneal shunting. The patient subsequently underwent surgical excision of the tumor followed by adjuvant craniospinal radiotherapy. Nine months after shunting, multiple intraabdominal metastatic lesions were found. Although the risk is low, ventriculoperitoneal shunting may facilitate the spread of malignant cells.

The purpose of this report is to caution against the use of hysteroscopy at the time of uterine curettage performed in women with postmenopausal bleeding suspected of having endometrial carcinoma. A 63 year old postmenopausal woman had endometrial carcinoma diagnosed by hysteroscopically guided curettage. The case is unusual in several features including the age at onset, the lack of predisposing familial or pre-malignant conditions, and the subsequent course of the patient. Laryngeal microtrauma and seeding of laryngeal malignancy to the lower respiratory tract after short-term intubation is reported. These findings have been confirmed by cytology of smears taken from the endotracheal tubes used on 40 patients. Dysphonia without macroscopically visible laryngeal changes is caused by microtraumatic lesions. The authors advise very gentle intubation to avoid such consequences. Dissemination of infection and malignancy remains unsolved.
