Hydroquinone (HQ) is one of the most effective inhibitors of melanogenesis in vitro and in vivo, and is widely used for the treatment of melanosis and other hyperpigmentary disorders. The hydrogen peroxide binding reaction has been examined with alkaline-purified resting enzyme in order to avoid mixtures of low pH induced fast and slow conformers. Halohydrin hydrogen-halide-lyase, which catalyzes the interconversion of halohydrins to epoxides, purified from a recombinant E. coli was found to catalyze the transformation of 1,2-epoxybutane into beta-hydroxyvaleronitrile in the presence of cyanide. Chloride inhibited competitively the formation of beta-hydroxyvaleronitrile. Recently, macroregenerative nodules in cirrhotic livers have been suspected to be among the putative precancerous lesions in human hepatocarcinogenesis. We examined the morphologies of 99 macroregenerative nodules in 44 cirrhotic livers with special emphasis on stainable iron. A sensitive, selective and reproducible high-performance liquid chromatographic assay of thiopental concentrations in twelve rat tissues was developed using thiamylal as the internal standard. Samples were homogenized in phosphate buffer, extracted into pentane and chromatographed on a microparticulate octadecyl reversed-phase column using ultraviolet detection at 290 nm. Fecal chymotrypsin (FCT) has been measured by a new photometric method (Monotest Chymotrypsin; Boehringer, Mannheim) in 78 patients: 44 with chronic pancreatitis and 34 not affected by any pancreatic disease. This paper presents a suicide case of copper sulfate ingestion. Post-mortem autopsy revealed mucous membrane necrosis of the esophagus and the stomach. Certain 1,2,3-triazole derivatives were prepared and tested for their ability to displace [3H]diazepam from bovine brain membranes. From these compounds, the quinolytriazole derivatives (14, 15, 16, 17) were clearly the most potent, while the naphthyl- and the naphthyridyl-triazoles were considerably less active. DNA was subjected to bisulfite-catalyzed transamination at the N4 sites of its cytosine residues with 1,8-diaminooctane (DAO).
