BACKGROUND: Achilles tendon ruptures are common injuries in an otherwise healthy, active population. Several treatment options exist, with both surgical and non-surgical options. Each treatment option has a unique set of risks and harms, which may present patients with decisional conflict. The aim of the proposed study is to develop, alpha test and field test a patient decision aid for patients presenting with acute Achilles tendon ruptures.
METHODS: This is a three-stage study protocol. First, we will assemble a multi-disciplinary steering group including patients, clinicians, educators, and

Special care is needed to address the pathologic tendon underlying SQTR. The current surgical literature still lacks the statistical data that shows which surgical approach is most optimal for SQTR in ESRD patients.
CONCLUSION: SQTR rupture is gen …

CASE: Our patient was born with bilateral congenital clubfeet and underwent standard Ponseti treatment. At 8 months of age, bilateral percutaneous Achilles tenotomies were performed, with an excellent outcome. At 16 years, he suffered a unilateral Achilles tendon rupture, and at 18 years, he suffered a contralateral Achilles rupture, both of which were successfully repaired.
CONCLUSION: As far as we know, this is the first reported case of bilateral Achilles tendon ruptures in an adolescent. This patient also previously underwent Ponseti casting and Achilles tenotomy for congenital clubfoot.

BACKGROUND: The impact of suture type on tensile strength, re-rupture rates and infection risk in Achilles tendon rupture repair is not been well established. The aim of this review is to evaluate existing literature on the associated risk of postoperative infection with absorbable and non-absorbable suture materials in Achilles tendon rupture repair.
METHODS: A systematic review of search databases PubMed; Google Scholar; and OVID Medline was made to identify studies related to complications associated with Achilles tendon rupture repair. PRISMA guidelines were utilised for this review. Meta

BACKGROUND Timely diagnosis and surgical treatment are often needed to restore function of the extensor mechanism after rupture of the quadriceps tendon. Several techniques for quadriceps tendon repair have been reported, including suture anchors and bone tunnels. Cortical button fixation, or the use of an adjustable cortical fixation device, is a local and biomechanically strong internal brace technique used to treat ligament and tendon injuries. This report is of a 69-year-old man who experienced a quadriceps tendon rupture while golfing and underwent a successful surgical repair using corti

PURPOSE: In patients with symptomatic chronic tear of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC), reconstruction with a tendon graft is indicated. We propose an arthroscopic-assisted technique to reconstruct the TFCC and to stabilize the distal radioulnar joint.
METHODS: Patients with a chronic foveal TFCC tear of which it is deem not reparable were recruited. TFCC reconstruction was performed by making use of the TFCC remnants and a palmaris tendon graft under arthroscopic guidance.
RESULTS: Twelve patients with an average age of 29 years old were evaluated. Three patients had concomitant

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear is the most frequent ligamentous injury of the knee joint. Autografts of hamstring (HS) or quadriceps tendons (QT) are used for primary ACL reconstruction. In this study, we planned to examine whether harvesting an HS graft is related to a deficit in dynamic knee stabilisation and strength revealed by dynamic valgus as compared with QT graft or the uninjured leg. Furthermore, if this deficit exists, is it compensated by higher neuromuscular activity of the quadriceps muscle?
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Adult patients who had undergone ACL reconstru…

PURPOSE: The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction via a contralateral bone-tendon-bone (C-BTB) autograft was introduced to encourage early return to sports. The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether primary contralateral BTB ACL reconstruction can be adapted for early return-to-sports modification by investigating the chronological changes of muscle strength after surgery.
METHODS: Fifteen patients who had underwent C-BTB ACL reconstruction were compared with a matched group of 15 patients of ipsilateral BTB (I-BTB) ACL reconstruction. The clinical outcomes of the time of re

BACKGROUND: The partial articular supraspinatus tendon avulsion (PASTA) lesion repair remains a topic of debate. We have performed in situ repair of PASTA lesions using a potentially viable threading lasso fixation technique. This retrospective case series aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of PASTA lesion repair using threading lasso fixation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to review this technique and its outcomes in terms of pain and upper extremity function.
METHODS: Twenty-five patients with PASTA lesions who were treated with threading lasso fixation were rev

BACKGROUND: Gluteal tendon tears (GTT) can cause pain and weakness of the hip. We analyze the impact of gluteal muscle fatty degeneration, atrophy and tear morphology on clinical outcomes of surgical repair.
METHODS: All sequential patients receiving surgical repair of GTTs via anchor sutures between 1/2015 and 11/2018 were retrospectively identified. MRIs were reviewed by a radiologist for tendon retraction, muscle atrophy and tear size. The Goutallier-Fuchs Classification (GFC) was used to quantify fatty degeneration as < 2° or ≥ 2°. Demographic and clinical variables were abstracted from t

BACKGROUND: Delayed wound healing is a potention complication after Achilles tendon suture repair and occurs for various reasons. The conventional treatment for delayed wound healing is open surgery, but patients face long recovery times and postoperative care is difficult.
CASE PRESENTATION: This report presents three patients who were seen at our institute from April 2008 to October 2017 due to long-term non-healing wounds after surgery. All three patients had undergone surgery at least 2 months previously. We performed endoscopic surgery on these patients. After the operation, patients rec

In this study, we propose a new approach in the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) replacement to provide stability and integration with bone tunnel. A polylactide (PLA)-based tubular implant was used to support the graft stabilization in femoral and tibial bones and to stimulate the healing process after (ACL) replacement on a sheep model. The ACL was replaced with an autologous Achilles tendon split graft. The tendon-to-bone healing in the model was analyzed after 6 and 12 weeks. Two groups of animals were compared, i.e. the group with the PLA-based implant used in the ACL replacement and the
